Hilton Los Angeles Airport

Why We Like This Place

Standing at the gateway to California’s largest and arguably most diverse city, the Hilton Los Angeles Airport is grand in scale, combining a soothing elegance with artistic flourishes. Located just a quarter mile outside of LAX and within an easy drive to downtown, the beaches or Beverly Hills, it’s an excellent locale to gather your far-flung friends and relatives for an upscale wed-ding celebration.

This world-class hotel, while managed by the Hilton organization, is privately owned and much of the décor has been handpicked by the owners. That attention to detail is evident as soon as you enter the lobby, which balances its 3-story-high proportions with lots of human-scaled conversation areas. Gleaming marble floors and granite consoles are softened with richly patterned rugs and velvet armchairs, all layered in a neutral palette of cream, gold and honey. At the far end of the lobby an impressive center stair-case, all glass and gold railings, makes a stellar backdrop for wedding photos.

Just beyond the staircase are two of the hotel’s premier banquet rooms, which are often used together for a seamless affair. If you have your ceremony on site, you may want to hold it in the International Ballroom, a palatial-sized space that has ample room for a traditional or ethnic ceremony even when divided in two. This formal ballroom is decorated in tones of peach and cream, with silk fabric adding a touch of luxury to the walls. A series of mirrors around the room accentuates the dramatic impact of the enor-mous, rectangular, icicle-crystal chandeliers suspended from the high, coffered ceiling.

After you’ve said “I do,” invite everyone across the foyer to the similarly themed (same colors, same chandeliers) but smaller Pa-cific Ballroom, a somewhat more intimate setting for mingling over cocktails. Then it’s back to the International Ballroom for a sumptuous dinner and dancing, taking advantage of the venue’s full 11,000 square feet of splendor. (Although the hotel has an extensive catering menu, you’re free to bring in ethnic or specialty foods from an outside caterer.)

For something quite different, head up to the La Jolla Room and Foyer on the mezzanine level. Along the way, take a moment to enjoy the aerial views of the lobby below, then check out the display of dazzling accoutrements that you pass en route to the event spaces: a framed golden brocade, Asian tapestries and gorgeous geodes of amethyst and crystal—all arranged using the principles of Feng Shui. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres are served in the warmly inviting La Jolla Foyer, followed by dinner in the La Jolla Room, which is adorned with unusual chandeliers that look like flower petals descending from the ceiling, and mirrored French doors along the back wall.

There are several other options for weddings of 50 or fewer guests, and the staff will happily work with you to design an event that suits your style and budget. Your out-of-town guests can relax at the hotel (there’s a pool, sports bar, fitness center and res-taurants) or they can visit many of the local attractions. And when their stay at the Hilton is over, it’s just a quick trip back to the airport.
