Why We Like This Place
A visual delight, The Ebell of Los Angeles was built in the late 1920s to house the nation’s most prestigious women’s club. Arched doorways, including an intricately crafted wrought-iron main entrance, lead into sunny galleries and lofty salons, all of which have their own intriguing details.
The large, pleasant Main Dining Room features a series of carved columns with arches supporting its high ceiling, and a bank of tall French doors opens onto the adjacent courtyard, flooding the room with light.
Enclosed by picturesque arcades, flowering shrubs and trees, it’s no surprise that this serene courtyard garden is the preferred spot for ceremonies. Exchange vows in front of a fountain topped with an appealing bronze statue or under the tall arched doorway of the Art Salon. This unique gallery, with its draped archways, is hung with original paintings by local artists. It serves as a foyer for the larger Lounge, a magnificent space with a striking carved Italian ceiling, wrought-iron chandeliers, dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows, a grand piano, plus a mezzanine and grand staircase from which to look down on it all!
Both elegance and functionality were important to the leading society women who designed this extraordinary social center, and The Ebell bears the marks of their good judgment and distinguished taste in every detail.
