Why We Like This Place
Diamond Bar is a popular golf course whose vibrant greens, bordered by tall shade trees, seem to run off into infinity. But golfing activities don’t interfere with the club’s gem of a wedding site, located around a corner and away from all of the bustle. From the front of the clubhouse there’s no hint of this sweet place, but once you come upon it, you have one of those pure “ahh” moments. First you see a flower-fringed white gazebo, nestled under a grove of leafy sycamores. A paved path curves away from it over luxuriant grass to a terrace that runs the length of the inviting banquet room. The room’s tall north and east windows create “walls” that look as though they’re made of pure glass, and a shady patio at its far end—only steps from the gazebo—sports a koi pond.
A hedge of red-tipped photinia sets the lawn, gazebo and banquet room apart from the rest of Diamond Bar. You can see beyond it to the high-spirited golfing activities going on, but they all seem to be at a peaceful remove. Inside the hedge’s perimeter there’s a sheltered world of colorful flowers, lush grass and the speckled white bark of the sycamores. Standing here, you feel like you’re in a protected glade in the woods.
The banquet room is a bright place, its walls finished in a creamy white with pale yellow highlights. Dramatic trusses span the space, and brass chandeliers with tulip-shaped sconces drop gracefully from the cathedral ceiling. Next to the glass wall that runs beside the patio is an impressive wall-to-wall dance floor—this is one serious boogie zone that has probably clinched the deal for many a bride. The lobby outside the banquet room also accesses a bridal changing room, the terrace and the clubhouse bar. Wedding parties often begin their processional from there, marching along the terrace to the gazebo.
Besides the gazebo, Diamond Bar offers several excellent places to take wedding photos, including the course’s picturesque lake and, in season, a high bank of blazing bougainvillea downslope from the banquet room.
A venue’s good looks are important, but an equally critical matter is, “Can the kitchen cook?” The answer is yes! Not only can it cook, it can cook almost anything you can imagine. The Inland Empire has become such a mosaic of ethnicities that Diamond Bar’s banquet staff learned long ago how to prepare almost any cuisine. The accommodating kitchen, which handles scores of weddings every year, is scrupulous about arranging advance tastings so you can be confident of the dishes that will be served.
When you go down the checklist of the things that make for a fine wedding day, Diamond Bar has as good an ensemble as you’re likely to find. Saying “I do” here could well be a decision you’ll be glad you made for years to come.
