Why We Like This Place

They call it “the Jewel on the Hill.” Appropriate, considering this singular restaurant is perched high above the San Fernando Valley amid the San Gabriel mountains, affording a breathtaking view of the busy city below. This lofty haven will make you feel as if you were transported to a luxurious Polynesian island, replete with assorted creature comforts and a seductive atmosphere ideal for romance. The décor manages to capture both the whimsical and the elegant. Whether it’s the restaurant lobby’s spinning palmetto fan (something the Professor might design to keep Ginger cool), or the crystal chandeliers that cast a soft glow over the opulent banquet rooms, the Castaway keeps the eye intrigued.

But what will probably please you most about this venue is the excellent staff, dedicated to making your event truly outstanding. These experienced catering professionals specialize in weddings, and can offer local referrals for everything from photographers to flowers. The Castaway even has its own ceremony site: a pretty courtyard enclosed by white lattice. Guests sit among lacy birch trees, which form a natural canopy over the aisle, while the bride and groom exchange vows in a white gazebo, framed by a backdrop of the hills and nearby golf course. A Ceremony Coordinator comes with rental of this lovely site, so all the bride has to worry about is making sure she has something borrowed and something blue.

No matter how intimate or grand your guest list, the Castaway has many fine spaces to hold your reception. The Restaurant Terrace, with its panoramic view of the city, is a favorite at sunset. Another popular choice is the woodsy Mountain View Room, with an outdoor patio offering a canyon vista. The largest affairs are held in the Starlight Ballroom, featuring a high coffered ceiling, huge polished dance floor, and the aforementioned chandeliers.

And in case you were wondering, the meals do not consist of “pineapple with everything”; the Castaway’s cuisine is actually quite Continental, with an emphasis on fresh seafood. Their catering experts have designed a variety of party menu options, and will help you make the best selections for your particular celebration. However, if you have a case of island fever, check out their Luau Grounds, adjacent to the restaurant. Man-made waterfalls, tiki bar, and a grassy knoll—which can easily accommodate up to 500 people (along with the roast suckling pig!)—makes this a fun choice for a corporate event, a very large family reunion or garden reception.

Rest assured, whether you host a luau or a sophisticated sit-down dinner, everything at the Castaway is done with attentive service and stylish flair.
