Why We Like This Place
Welcome to Ca’ Del Sole—“House of the Sun”—where life is good, the food even better, and the setting sublime. At this delight-fully authentic trattoria, the tantalizing aroma of fresh roasted garlic and herbs mingles with an infectious mood of contentment, and it’s no wonder that patrons linger as long as possible.
Co-owner Rodolfo Costella is a warm and gracious restauranteur, who fashioned Ca’ Del Sole after the country inns near his native Venice. Cheery whitewashed brick walls, dark wooden beams, and a double-sided fireplace capture the rustic feel of an Old World village, where strangers are wined and dined, and even the most trivial milestone is cause for celebration.
Ca’ Del Sole’s adjoining dining areas offer visitors a window to Italian traditions: The Card Room features framed collections of antique playing cards that depict regional designs; beautifully exotic masks like those worn in Renaissance Venetian balls highlight the Mask Room. Even the private banquet spaces exhibit a genuine Mediterranean flavor. In the Venetian Room, artistic ceramics and shiny copper pots lend a homey atmosphere. A pretty stenciled garland accents butter-cream walls, and dark wood hutches showcase fine Italian wines. The Venetian can be split into two for intimate affairs, or left as is for a large reception.
At one end of the Venetian, French doors open onto an L-shaped terrace of distressed brick that holds a garden of delights. A car-pet of bougainvillea spills from the top of a slanted wooden overhang that boasts wrought-iron chandeliers. Beyond the awning’s shade, clay flowerpots hang from tree trunks and the terrace walls are swathed in ivy and lantana vines. In the corner of the ter-race, water pours from a wall fountain and blooms overflow from terracotta pots in splashes of pink, apricot, and red. Here, under a canopy of leafy branches, the bridal couple pronounces their wedding vows in a ceremony of charming simplicity.
An al fresco cocktail hour and reception are pleasant and easy out on the terrace, with cafe umbrellas for shade or heat lamps to ward off any chill. A line of white-curtained cabanas along one wall is ripe with event possibilities: You could showcase the wed-ding cake in one, the guest book in another and the couple’s sweetheart table in the center cabana. Arrange furniture in the rest to create intimate conversation nooks! Keep the doors to the Venetian wide open, and let your party flow indoors and out. There are no room charges or minimums at Ca’ Del Sole, so feel free to use the lovely event spaces for everything from an important power breakfast to the most lavish gala.
Whatever type of gathering you host here, count on a chorus of satisfied “oohs” and “aahs” from the guests after their first bite of the tantalizing cuisine. The light Northern Italian fare lets classic Mediterranean flavors shine through—garlic and capers, parmesan and polenta—each dish is a feast for the senses. The fresh, imaginative creations taste like the ingredients were plucked from the sun-kissed hills of Veneto. Popular favorites include pumpkin-stuffed pasta and lobster risotto. A mere nibble of the home-style desserts will tempt you to forgo a wedding cake! And if there’s any special food you require, just ask. For example, for a Passover menu the chefs took their inspiration from Venice’s Jewish quarter and produced a delicious blend of ethnic dishes.
The ristorante’s approach is extremely professional, yet guests are able to relax amid a joyous atmosphere. “We want to make eve-ryone feel comfortable,” assures Signor Costella. Your event at the “House of the Sun” will have guests so comfortable that they won’t want to leave!
