Why We Like This Place

Whitewashed fences, sweeping lawns and a vintage barn are all part of this venue’s rustic charm. Close to Orange, Riverside and Los Angeles Counties, Brookside Equestrian Center is a wonderful choice for hosting a garden or barn wedding, with the added option of outdoor dining and dancing under the stars. 

This historic 28-acre property where National Velvet was filmed in 1944 (starring then 12-year-old Elizabeth Taylor), serves as the training headquarters for the U.S. Olympic equestrian team. It also serves up an initial impression of overwhelming greenness. Broadleaf trees of every kind—eucalyptus, sycamores, birches, Chinese elms, and striking gnarled pepper trees—dot the center’s incredibly well-tended lawns, some of which span acres. The trees create pockets of deep, refreshing shade that alternate with sunlit greens and gardens. In fact, the abundance of trees often keeps this site cooler than the surrounding area, an extra benefit if you’re planning a summer wedding.

Couples often say “I do” beneath a pair of majestic shade trees framed by a pastoral tableau: a spreading lawn bordered by white fences in the background. However, with so many acres at your disposal, you have plenty of other possible ceremony sites to choose from.

Most receptions unfold on the main lawn in front of the bright white, two-story barn, which makes a unique backdrop. Two more settings on either side provide more party options: To the right, partially shaded by a line of robust sycamores, is a huge open structure with a soaring cathedral roof that can comfortably hold up to 900 people. This flexible space can be used for ceremonies, receptions, galas and dancing. You can Astro Turf the arena’s floor if you like, and create a romantic atmosphere at night by stringing cafe lights across the ceiling.

To the left is a simple white gazebo at the edge of the lawn. This spot lends itself to cocktail receptions, where you might entertain guests with a string quartet or invite them to play lawn games nearby.

In addition to its lovely grounds, Brookside delivers on service as well. Rose Wade-Northen, the site’s event designer and caterer, is dedicated to giving each couple the wedding they envision. “We only host one wedding per day, and I treat it as if it were my own,” she says. She’ll help you plan your event, match you up with the right vendors, and create a custom menu. She’ll also be there on the big day to make sure it’s spectacular, beautiful and stress-free.

With just the right combination of manicured good looks and relaxed elegance, Brookside is an outdoor wedding venue that’s hard to resist.

CEREMONY CAPACITY: The site holds 600 seated guests outdoors. EVENT/RECEPTION CAPACITY: The center accommodates 1,000 seated or 1,500 standing guests for an outdoor reception. Multiple areas used in combination can accommodate up to 3,000 guests. MEETING CAPACITY: The site holds 1,500 seated outdoors.

20% of the estimated event total is required to reserve your date. Wedding packages start at $89/person. Tax, alcohol and service charge are additional.
