Why We Like This Place

Once you’re waved through the gate of this upscale, private community, you can’t help but take a moment to enjoy the gorgeous scenery on the drive up to Bear Creek Golf Club. The road is lined with rustling pepper trees and Monterrey pines, while the lush greenery of an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course spreads out around you. Then, as you turn towards the clubhouse on the hill, you’ll catch sight of the large, freeform lake on your right, where ducks and lily pads float along the surface. This, we’re happy to say, will be the beautiful backdrop for your outdoor ceremony.

You’ll be equally beautiful after primping in the bright and comfortable Ladies Lounge (the process documented by your photographer if you wish). While you’re getting ready for your walk down the aisle, your guests enter the clubhouse under the rotunda-style porte-cochère that leads to the Grand Lobby. Filled with natural light from skylights in the high ceiling, this airy room has slate flooring, a fireplace and plush seating in butterscotch-toned leather.

From here, friends and family will head outside to take their seats overlooking that serene lake beside the 18th hole. You’ll make your entrance along a curving pathway, and join your groom under an archway at the edge of the lake with a line of towering trees to one side, fairways on the other, and the rolling hills of the Santa Rosa Plateau in the distance.

While you linger to take lakeside photos (also be sure to visit the wooden bridge on the other side of the clubhouse), your invitées will continue to enjoy the view while sampling cocktails and hors d’oeuvres on the clubhouse’s large wraparound patio. Stylish teak chairs can be arranged around tables or fire pits for easy conversation, as the sun sets over the lake. Or, everyone can go inside to Jack’s (as in Nicklaus) Bar, featuring a modern, open fireplace and lovely vistas through three walls of windows.

When it’s time for dinner and dancing, just walk around to the other side of the fireplace for a wonderful reveal of the Main Dining Room. Expansive and airy, like a “great room” in a mountain lodge, this understatedly elegant space is highlighted with a soaring, cross-beamed ceiling, double-tiered iron chandeliers, and a massive stone fireplace that dominates one wall. And, of course, it has floor-to-ceiling windows that look out to the fairways and beyond.

After 25 years of being a “strictly private” facility, Bear Creek has only recently opened its doors to the public for special events. And fortunately for you, they’ve maintained their high level of service. They’ll help you plan your event, and the chef will be happy to work with you to tailor your menu to your taste or dietary needs. As the event staff explained, they’re an independent venue, not part of a chain, and they want each bride to feel that her wedding is unique and special.

Fees & Deposits

25% of the total event cost is required to reserve your date and the balance is due 10 days prior to the event. Rental fees range $0–1,000 depending on the guest count, day and time of the event and the package choice. Meals range $35–105/person. Tax, alcohol and a 20% service charge are additional.
