Pixie Spindel says, “Tapping into people comes natural to me. I try to break down barriers faster with each successive shoot.” Perhaps this is why Pixie’s brides feel so comfortable and gorgeous in their photos, and feel that Pixie captures the true essence of their wedding in her work. Even the traditional portraits are made dynamic because Pixie gets everyone smiling, laughing, and having fun. Her exuberant personality brings out a lot of vivacity—and even unexpected things in people! One of her fellow industry professionals says it best, “Pixie will make you feel comfortable, she will make you look amazing, and you’ll leave her presence grinning. She’s that kind of photographer.”
Pixie Vision Photography’s rate is $3500 which includes up to 6 hours of shooting time, two photographers, photo enhancing and retouching, an online private gallery, discs of the hi-resolution fully-edited images, 100 4x6 prints, two 8x10 prints and one 11x14 canvas print. Questions and Answers
What 3 words best describe your work? Creative, vibrant, intuitive.
What drew you to this field/how did you get started? I love shooting love! I shoot various genres like families and dance, but weddings are fun for me because the love and moments are naturally occurring and my only job is to capture them, and at times instigate them. I really do enjoy it. I truly enjoy telling the story of someone's big day. I'm very into psychology and empowerment and love to be with loving people on happy days. :)
What have weddings taught you?
Weddings have taught me how diverse families are. There are always these little subplots to a wedding—divorced parents, an eccentric sibling, etc. To bring them together for the portraits is sometimes an interesting process. I learn about people through my work as a wedding photographer.
What is the best advice you give a couple when planning their wedding? Expect to feel a bit frantic the day of your wedding but release it and enjoy the day, knowing you've hired the best professionals, and are surrounded by people that love you. Often I have brides that get caught up in the planning and don't know when to put the 'to-do list' down and pick up the champagne! :)
If you could have any superpower on the job, what would it be? To clone myself at a wedding to get even more memories for my clients...which is why I hire the best second shooters with similar cameras and talent. Or to not have to eat so I can keep shooting...When I shoot, my spirit tends to overpower my body and I have to remind myself to drink water and eat something.
What are 3 words that describe your personality? Outgoing, responsible, creative.
What's your favorite book/movie/work of art? My favorite movies are Harold and Maude and Wings of Desire.
What's your favorite quote? "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." —Marianne Williamson
Extracurricular activities: Hiking, travel, and writing.
If you weren't in your current profession, what would you do instead? I'd probably be a psychologist.
Tell us about your pets, if you have any. I have two dogs, Pinball the Boston Terrier & Cleo (who we call Crazy CleeClee, for obvious reasons). With no kids, these fur babies have become my children. I adore them!
