Questions and Answers

Tell us about your company name. The name New York Food Company has everything to do with atmosphere and style (rather than geographic location). We were never located in New York; however, our founders did spend some time living in the big apple and loved the fact that you can go out at any time of the day and find great food. They wanted to bring that same sense of style and flavor to Los Angeles so they created New York Food Company and our motto: Great Food, Great Events, Anywhere, Anytime.

What 3 words describe your work? Delicious. Extraordinary. Memorable.

Why should someone hire you? We offer a better value than any other caterer. Not only do we have a 30-year track record of delicious food and successful events, we also manage two exclusive ocean-view event venues. We provide professional event planners for all events, talented and flexible chefs to provide a range of ethnic cuisines, an in-house bakery department, and much more.

What are the common misconceptions about your services? We have many facets to our company: including corporate delivery catering, in-flight catering for private charter jets, full service off-site events, and weddings. We are truly capable of catering any type of event.

Tell us about a favorite, unusual or most interesting moment at a wedding: It is always interesting to see the different approaches to the wedding ceremony. I was particularly impressed when one couple chose to take a helicopter ride along the coastline of Palos Verdes right before getting dropped off in front of their guests and proceeding to the ceremony.

What have weddings have taught you? That hard work pays off.

What is the best advice you give to a couple when planning their wedding? Hire a professional. Many couples (especially in today's economy) try to plan too many things on their own and wind up placing an unnecessary amount of stress on themselves right before the biggest moment of their lives.

—Sales & Marketing Manager Giorgo Paizanis

What are 3 words that describe your personality? Fun-loving, witty and kind.

What is your favorite quote? It comes from my three-year-old granddaughter and there are many variations—"I wanna go NOW", "Can we do it NOW?", "Let's go NOW." Everything is so important to her and needs to take place in that moment. Ahhhhh, to be a child again.

What's your favorite marriage advice? Treat your partner as you would like to be treated and remember patience and a great sense of humor will get you through the most difficult of times.

What's your favorite way to wind down after a hard day?

  1. Go home and relax in my surroundings. I love to spend time in the kitchen cooking for my family and friends.
  2. Go out for a fabulous dinner with a few friends at some new restaurant with an up and coming young chef.

Tell us about your pets, if you have any. I have a wonderful kitty cat, Gracie. She's a rescue—a taupe tabby with fabulous blue eyes. She brings me much joy and keeps me entertained when I'm home alone.

What are some of your favorite places to eat—either everyday spots or special occasion splurges?

  • Favorite new place: Morgan's at the Old La Quinta Resort in La Quinta. Jimmy Schmidt put together an amazing menu. Just last week, I had the most amazing oysters on the half-shell I've ever had.
  • Geoffrey's in Malibu for a late afternoon cocktail and appetizers.
  • Girl and the Fig.
  • Martini Lounge.
  • Auberge de Sol.
  • Ad Hoc.
  • Favorite everyday spot would be my own kitchen—whether I'm cooking for myself or a group of people, it's my favorite place to be.

About This Company

From seasoned foodies to culinary newbies, New York Food Company’s clients are crazy about them. This amazing group of food professionals is known for delivering mouth-watering menus and incredible service, and each person on their expert staff—which includes talented chefs, special events designers, venue managers and customer service personnel—plays a starring role in the way this company operates.

But the real star of the show is you. “It’s not about us; it’s about providing the quality and style that our clients require,” say the founders. And they’ve succeeded at providing exactly what their clients want for over three decades. Since their humble beginnings as a storefront deli in 1979, their ability to perfectly match up a menu with a client’s tastes and to execute that menu superlatively has made them one of the most sought-after caterers around.

The NYFC experience revolves, of course, around the food. It’s locally sourced, nothing is pre-made or frozen, and every menu is customized to your desires. From food stations featuring Kobe beef sliders, salmon blini and pulled pork biscuits to colossal shrimp kabobs or petite potato pancakes topped with homemade applesauce and crème fraîche, the dishes are delectable. NYFC’s creativity shines in palate-pleasing mouthfuls like balsamic marinated lamb lollipops served with green apple mint chutney, tiramisu votives, and cheesecake and chocolate macaroons served croquembouche-style. Or how about gold-dusted raw oysters with caviar pearls? Their range is international. If you request Indian food, they’ll ask, “Northern or Southern? Lots of heat or just a little? How does your mom make it?” There’s virtually nothing beyond your reach when you work with NYFC. They want to replicate your best food memories and make them even better.

These are constantly inventive people with a food passion so profound that they not only follow trends, they lead them. New clients who want to know how good they are can sample some of their fabulous fare at one of their mini-events, which are designed to showcase not only the scrumptiousness of the food, but how perfectly it’s set up and served.

“The NYFC staff always anticipates,” reports a delighted customer. “It’s really great when things are taken care of without you having to ask. I loved the overall beauty of the service—the tables, the chairs, the buffet line, the traveling waiters plus the excellent food selections.”

“NYFC not only paid attention to our needs and requests, they accommodated our budget too,” declares another.

“What a terrific team, raves yet one more. “I’m so happy NYFC was a part of my event. I was truly a guest at my own party!”
