Essence Entertainment does so much more than simply hire the musicians to perform at your special event. “People keep coming back to us for the unique way we service our clients,” explains partner Tony La Bianca. “We handle all aspects of the engagement.”

Tony started Essence Entertainment 25 years ago after his own band became so successful that he had to refer engagements to others, and he quickly earned a reputation for professionalism and integrity. “Tony is 100% honest and ethical,” observes Mike Steffens, the other half of the Essence team. Mike has many years of experience as a producer for shows at major theme parks like Disneyland, and has even taken productions on tour internationally. Since Mike teamed up with Tony in 1991, Essence has established itself as the largest entertainment agency in Orange County. In fact, they are at the top of the referral list for such first-class venues as the Ritz-Carlton at Dana Point and the Hyatt Newporter in Newport Beach.

Tony and Mike are so personable that even the most nervous brides will feel comfortable discussing their event requirements. They’re also sticklers for details and organization, and work closely with the wedding coordinator or banquet manager. Essence even provides customized ceremony and reception planner forms. “We like to give our clients a picture of how things will actually unfold,” explains Mike. “Our discussion helps them to crystallize how they see it all coming together. Then we can bring their vision into being.”

The entertainers Essence represents are consummate professionals, able to control the flow of the event and address any spontaneous moments. “Most of our acts have been referred to us from industry professionals,” Mike explains. Before taking them on, Essence observes the performers in action. “We look to see if the crowd is enjoying themselves, if the band is dynamic and friendly.” The Essence roster includes classical ensembles, DJs, specialty bands, and groups that can cover everything from Swing to Top 40. “Then there are those unique acts that put on a whole show complete with costumes and choreography, like Dr. Feelgood and the Interns of Love.’ Quite simply, we have chosen to represent the best in both talent and personality.”

So concerned is Essence Entertainment with quality control that they have every client complete a questionnaire after the event, asking for feedback. “The standards we have here are really the highest,” says Mike. “Providing the best customer service and entertainment—really taking a personal interest from beginning to end—is what we’re all about.”
