About This Company
They call them the Mary and Karey Team. Mary Litzsinger, a Certified Special Event Professional, started out as a high-powered corporate event planner, who also enjoyed producing gala VIP dinners, book signings for celebrities, and mega-parties for thousands. Fifteen years ago she decided to open her own firm and, at the insistence of the vendors she worked with, began applying her creativity to the wedding industry. In 2002, daughter Karey Williams, a graduate of USC with a solid background in producing events, joined the organization. Together they have built an international reputation.
VP Events, Inc. is an award-winning, full-service wedding and special events design and management company known for producing outstanding celebrations of every kind. With offices in Santa Barbara, Westlake Village, and Santa Monica, they specialize in destination weddings, bringing couples from all over the country to Southern California. “Mary is an expert on this region,” says an associate. “She knows all the fabulous places—beautiful private estates, beaches, and vineyards—especially in the Santa Barbara area and along the Central Coast.”
They’re a team that knows how to create. “We’re always thinking outside the box,” Mary laughs. “We love working with clients who really want to let their imaginations go.” Their events—which are never overproduced—aren’t just elegant and upscale; they’re also extraordinarily rich in feeling. A Tuscan-style reception featured feasting tables, abundant florals and candles, and strolling musicians. In a vineyard wedding, they recreated the ambiance of Provence. Contemporary gatherings are chic, trendsetting affairs with a sophisticated edge. “It’s always exciting working with Mary,” says a DJ. “She does much more than your basic coordinator. She recently worked with a bride from New Orleans, incorporating her French heritage into an Old Hollywood glamour affair. Guests were greeted by a gospel choir, danced the night away to a traditional Frank Sinatra-style band, and finished off the evening with chicory coffee and beignets. They felt like they were in the Garden District of New Orleans.
“Because of her background,” says one designer, “she’s professional, totally organized, and not frazzled by anything. She’s got great people skills and she’s a calming presence for brides.” Another industry professional adds, “She is GOOD! She thinks quickly on her feet and knows how to delegate.” In fact, Mary and her team are so talented, they were able to put together a high-end, customized wedding for a high-profile client with guests coming from both coasts in less than four weeks. The wedding was such a stunner it was featured in Los Angeles Weddings.
While Grace Ormonde, Inside Weddings and The Knot have recognized VP Events for their creativity, people who work with them are just as likely to tout their sensitivity and attentiveness. A florist who’s done many events with this company observes, “They spend more than the usual amount of time listening to the client. It’s not an ego production for them. There’s no unnecessary drama. They treat everyone with the greatest respect. That’s because Mary handles people well, but doesn’t try to control them.” At VP Events, Inc. they believe in empowering clients. “We encourage every couple to do something really special for themselves, and we don’t judge their decisions, or make them feel awkward about what they like and don’t like.
