Services

Robert Evans and his staff choose to photograph only 30 weddings a year so they can spend quality time getting to know their clients and creating very personalized work. Robert uses a very candid, artistic approach; his goal is for his clients to have fun while he “captures what happens, not creates it.” Robert always works with an assistant who also takes photos, so they can be two places at once. They stay for the entire event to capture all the moments of joy from beginning to end.

Robert offers all his clients an engagement shoot that will allow you to get comfortable with each other. His studio offers full photographic services, so if you want a formal bridal portrait, family portrait, or even need photos for business, they can serve you.

Robert Evans Studios guarantees all albums, framed images , and workmanship for life.

Robert has been a professional photographer since the age of 19. Self-taught, he can’t remember a time when he wasn’t passionate about photography. He has photographed such special events as the wedding of Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt, events for Frank Sinatra, Estee Lauder, Sugar Ray Leonard’s family, Bill Clinton and the Democratic Party. His work has been featured in Martha Stewart Living, Modern Bride, Wedding Bells, The Los Angeles Times and many more notable publications. Robert is the Photography Expert for weddingchannel.com, where he responds to reader’s questions and writes articles on wedding photography.

Questions and Answers

Tell us about your company name. I named my company after a really great guy. He's funny too.

What 3 words describe your work? Expressive. Distinctive. Unparalleled.

Why should someone hire you? I understand the responsibility that goes into capturing wedding images and I will deliver three key traits:

An artistic eye: Each photographer has a different vision. You only get one chance to get great wedding images, so don't settle for less then the best.

Personality: You want to hire a photographer you feel at ease with—someone you would want to invite to your wedding.

Experience: You want someone with the forethought and knowledge that only comes with years of past experience.

What are the common misconceptions about your services? I think due to the fact that I have photographed some well-known weddings, people assume that they cannot afford my services, which in most cases is not true. Yes, I might be a bit more than a photographer who has only been shooting for a few years, but you will never know unless you inquire for yourself. You get what you pay for—especially with wedding photography.

What drew you to this field/how did you get started? From a young age I was always drawn to photography. In hindsight, I now know this is what I was put here to do. I picked up a camera at an early age and followed my heart and my passion into photography.

What are some of sources of inspiration or influences on your work? I love art and architecture so I take the time to look at magazines and books, and visit museums to fill my tank with ideas and recharge my creativity.

Tell us about a favorite, unusual or most interesting moment at a wedding: I photographed a wedding 10,000 feet in the air on a Virgin America airplane with Sir Richard Branson officiating, dressed as a priest.

Tell us about a wedding you worked on that really makes you proud: I have been fortunate to be chosen to photograph some of the most amazing weddings all over the world; however, the fact that I am the one entrusted as the photographic historian is an honor, regardless of who my clients are.

What have weddings have taught you? That all people want the same things out of life: they want to be loved and be happy. Humans at the core have a fundamental need for love.

What is the best advice you give to a couple when planning their wedding? Get your photographs done before the ceremony, so that after you kiss and say, "I do," you can do what you want instead of spending an hour or more trying to get your pictures finished. Use the time to enjoy your new spouse, and enjoy more time with all those family and friends who traveled long distances to be with you on your special day.

If you could have any superpower on the job, what would it be? I would have eyes in the back of my head.

What are 3 words that describe your personality? Mellow. Patient. Punny. Yes, it's a play on words…

What is your favorite quote? "Safety is no accident."

What's your favorite marriage advice? "Yes Dear."

Extracurricular Activities: Fishing, photography, and the outdoors.

If you weren't in your current profession, what would you do instead? I'd be a pro football player or bass fisherman with a big shiny bass boat.

What are some of your favorite places to eat—either everyday spots or special occasion splurges? Sushi, sushi, sushi and Thai food.

What are three truths in life? 1. Writing down your goals is fifty percent of accomplishing them.

2. You cannot change your past.

3. The Law of Cause and Effect.

About This Company

Robert Evans’ utter lack of ego belies his remarkable resume. It’s true: Robert was one of two photographers chosen from over a hundred candidates to document the celebrated nuptials of Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston. But instead of playing up his high-profile accomplishment, this unassuming wedding photographer would rather talk about how much he enjoys his job.

Robert shoots weddings to please himself as much as to please his clients. “When I see the photos developed, I want to be excited about the work I did,” he explains. And his artistry and enthusiasm are readily apparent in the finished product. “Rob’s strength is that he truly captures the feeling side’ of the celebration—the energy, flavor and spice of it all. He shot my wedding five years ago, and the day went by in a blur. But the proofs brought us right back to the emotions of the event, let us relive it,” says an admiring fellow photographer.

Any couple lucky enough to book Robert can rest assured that they will get his undivided attention. He only shoots 30 weddings a year so that he can take the time to understand his clients and produce remarkably personalized photos. While Robert specializes in candid, documentary-style photography, he encourages wedding parties to get formal shots, as well. But even his posed family portraits never look stiff or contrived; Robert allows his subjects to “fall into their own poses,” producing organic images of relaxed people.

Robert includes an engagement photo shoot at no cost as part of his package, partly because these photos are a vital part of documenting the couple’s wedding story, and partly because he believes spending time with his clients before the Big Day is essential to taking fabulous photos. “I pay attention to the nuances of the bride’s and groom’s personalities—getting to know your subjects ahead of time makes all the difference in the wedding photos,” he explains. Robert also suggests that the couple choose their own location for the engagement shots, ideally a spot that holds some special significance for them. “Our engagement shoot with Robert was one of my fondest memories of our entire wedding,” raves one bride.

The day of the wedding, Robert takes pains to be unobtrusive and to respect the couple’s privacy. If the bride and groom decide to do photos before the ceremony, Robert spends a few moments shooting their reactions upon seeing each other for the first time, and then disappears for a little while to allow the soon-to-be-wed pair the opportunity to spend some cherished moments alone together.

Another photographer always accompanies Robert during the ceremony and festivities. “He had his assistant up on a roof during our ceremony and he got this great aerial view of us. Everyone who sees our album says, You had your photographer in a helicopter? Wow!’” one former client recalls with a laugh.

Perhaps Robert’s greatest attribute is his perennially relaxed demeanor, a rare and invaluable trait for a wedding photographer. During the last fifteen years, Robert has experienced his share of wedding horrors—he’s even suffered through a bomb threat from a disgruntled uninvited guest—but he always maintains his composure. Fortunately, his sense of calm is infectious-—and it shows in his work.
