About This Company
The name really does say it all. These cakes are suitable for framing. That is, if you can find a tasty crumb or two left after the event. “Regal cakes are simply delicious,” exclaims a caterer who consistently recommends them. “They are so much more than wedding cakes; they are fabulous desserts!”
The commendations aren’t surprising. Regal Cake Gallery has been producing a full line of fine baked goods since 1951. In 1980 they decided to focus solely on cakes and have succeeded in becoming one of the most respected names in the business. Customers have hundreds of designs to select from, or they can invent one of their own. In addition to the requisite bakers and decorators, current owner Rosa Leung, who won prizes for her watercolors and brush painting as a young girl, also maintains a stable of artists—many of them recruited from local art schools—to create the portraits, sculptures and fantasy shapes that enliven the Regal Cake Gallery line. They use high-tech computer programs and techniques (like Photoshop and airbrushing) to capture a client’s vision in cake, creating everything from the traditional to the most imaginative and amazing effects.
“Rosa will customize an order with a thoroughly accommodating attitude,” says one pleased event planner. “It’s all very personal and service-oriented. And the cakes are moist and tasty. My favorite is their chocolate rum cake.” A bride who loved her cake exclaimed, “It was exactly what I wanted. I had e-mailed them a picture of the design, and they replicated it perfectly.” “We enjoy trying new things,” laughs Rosa, who has produced many a unique confection for celebrity gatherings, including a portrait of Bill Clinton for Tonight Show host Jay Leno. “We can make anything in cake.”
Fresh ingredients like whole eggs and French buttercream guarantee that the taste is out of this world. “Quality is important,” stresses Rosa. That dedication to quality is reflected in the enthusiasm with which these cakes are received. “I absolutely believe that my wedding cake was the best I have ever tasted,” insists a bride whose multitiered cake was a rhapsody of delicate flavors. “Now, I may be biased, but many of our guests said the same thing!”
“We probably do 200 weddings a year and I would say Regal does at least half of them,” reports a caterer. “We recommend them, along with other fine bakers, then we let our clients decide. Our clients are free to do all the homework, all the tasting, and still, Regal definitely gets the majority of the business. I think Regal offers a good quality cake, both in taste and design, at a very fair price. Their product is a great value. I also like their attitude. I recently I had a client that wanted a strawberry shortcake cake with whipped cream frosting. Other bakers told the client, ‘no we can’t do that,’ but Regal said, ‘no problem,’ and every one raved about the cake at the wedding. They really make every effort to give customers what they want.”
Maybe that’s because the folks at Regal Cake Gallery believe that the cake is an essential component in every great celebration. Says Rosa, “Our cakes are not just something to eat; they are something to remember.”
