Talk about taking the cake! People always seem to be snitching other people’s slices when NancyKay is the cake designer. “Her cakes are AMAZING, both in taste and looks,” exclaim a pair of very impressed wedding industry colleagues. “Her product is superior. SUPERIOR. Her range is complete,” affirms another.
Passion is this professional’s secret ingredient; she has had a lifelong obsession with confections and love. During her childhood in Germany, stopping by the bakery was a part of her daily routine. As a girl, she started baking and testing out recipes (some of which she is still perfecting to this day). After college she began creating cakes and placing them strategically for people to sample. They were a hit and she soon found herself inundated with orders. Combining her love of confections and romance was a natural decision for her. “Creating wedding cakes for couples to celebrate their commitment to one another is very special to me.”
Today she makes her custom cakes for upscale weddings from the finest chocolates, pure citrus oils and delicate liqueurs. Her cakes are sophisticated and sleek, classically styled with contemporary twists. “She is very cutting edge,” confides a catering manager who says NancyKay’s Confections is one of two cake vendors he likes to use. Others recommend her exclusively, citing her professionalism and the beauty and quality of her cakes as their reasons.
How does she manage to consistently top people’s lists? NancyKay insists it’s the customization of her cakes and the personal connection she has with all of her clients. Every wedding cake and couple is very important to her. “If I’m going to lose sleep over my clients, I want to really know and understand their wishes,” she says. “My goal has always been to have a private commercial kitchen,” declares this talented confectioner. “A storefront would distract from my main purpose, which is to be completely available to a select clientele. Having an unconventional set-up allows me the flexibility to work around my clients’ schedules,” she says simply. This focus pays off for both NancyKay and the couples savvy enough to hire her.
NancyKay’s consultations are by appointment only. Couples are encouraged to bring their parents or friends to help in the decision-making. For the tasting portion, clients are presented with a beautiful sample plate of delicious cakes and fillings from which they choose their own flavor combination. Says one bride, “It was hard to stay composed in the face of such decadence. We ate a whole plateful of cakes and fillings. NancyKay’s creations, clearly homemade with the finest ingredients, really shone.” Creating the custom design for each couple is a fun and collaborative process. Clients sometimes bring wedding magazines, color samples, and gown photos, and NancyKay contributes her life experience, decorating expertise and a creativity enhanced by years of study and travel. The result is a spectacular edible articulation of their wedding cake fantasies. “NancyKay takes pride in her cakes and considers them art,” explains an admiring bride.
Her stylish cakes are gorgeous masterpieces of flavor. “All of my guests said it was the best wedding cake they ever tasted,” raves a bride. “I would recommend NancyKay to anyone.” Another bride sheds yet more light on this cakemaker’s considerable appeal. “NancyKay is one of those rare individuals who truly loves what she does.
