About This Company
Katie Clark brings a wonderful depth of experience with her when she photographs a wedding. She’s shot commercial advertising, children’s fashion, portraits, modeling portfolios, and news photojournalism. But here’s the surprise: it was working with child models that best prepared her for wedding photography and helped her develop the unwavering calm and bottomless patience that have become her professional hallmarks. Now, after seventeen years doing mostly weddings, Katie has a reputation for always keeping her cool.
“Katie is just so easy to work with,” explains one coordinator. “She is extremely professional, always composed, very soft-spoken, real, and congenial. She also offers a lot of sweet moral support to the bride and groom, and to the rest of the vendors at the event.”
“For most couples getting married, the big day is a totally new experience,” says Katie, “so I’m always thinking about how I can make it easier for them. Many guests ask me if I am a friend of the family because everyone seems so relaxed around me.”
Katie’s ability to be fun and impulsive, combined with her artful eye, creates photos that catch the bride, groom, and family in their most natural light. She takes pictures quickly to keep everyone fresh. “A clean background, good lighting, and the spontaneous capture of emotion are what’s important to me,” she explains.
This approach seems perfect for getting at the essence of each couple she immortalizes on film. “There’s one thing that sets Katie apart from all the other photographers I have worked with: she captures her clients’ personalities,” says one former bride who is an art buyer and gallery owner. “She is truly an artist and the quality of her work reflects her passion for photography. It just blows me away.”
In fact, Katie’s camera work has garnered so much attention in the last few years that demand has driven up her prices. Her creative style has recently been discovered in the Laguna Beach art community, where she’s on the rise as a fine art photographer. Many of her wedding clients include graphic designers, artists and fellow photographers. “When people see her albums, they want to book her because her work is so good,” explains another coordinator. “Not everyone can afford her, but those who can are very lucky.”
For couples with tighter budgets, Katie set up KCP Studios Inc., which has more flexible pricing and a stable of talented young photographers handpicked and trained by Katie. Her digital studio is updated annually with new technology and products that keep KCP on the cutting ed ge in the industry. Each client has their own website where they can view proofs, album designs and purchase prints. New clients can also look online at frequently updated albums of other weddings the studio has photographed. The Internet has also enabled Katie to create a “Client for Life” program, which documents the lives of her couples over the years. Staying on top in such a quickly growing field takes dedication and a commitment to customer service.
But perhaps the most important thing to know about Katie is that she is universally adored by vendors and brides alike. “She has an exceptional rapport with her clients. You can just see in their faces how much they like her,” says an officiant who has done several weddings with Katie over the years. “She’s all the things a bride would want and more. And she does beautiful work.”
