Events of Distinction is led by the versatile Joyce Scardina Becker, a combination interior, floral and event designer extraordinaire, with over 25 years of industry experience. A Certified Wedding Consultant (CWC) and Certified Meeting Professional (CMP), Joyce is the Director of the Wedding Planner Certificate Program at California State University East Bay. But Joyce says it’s her passions—for special events, fashion, interior design and travel—rather than her degrees that make her the wedding wiz she has come to be. She approaches designing a wedding as if she were designing a home: each celebratory moment—the ceremony, cocktails, dinner and dancing—represents a transition of space, having its own personal identity but still belonging to a cohesive whole, for guests to be wowed as well as welcomed.

Joyce’s innovative designs and meticulous planning are not the only attractive qualities that have drawn hundreds of brides to her. She is the author of Countdown to Your Perfect Wedding, an indispensable guidebook which is broken down into 52 chapters for each week of yearlong planning process, giving couples valuable information they need to know, when they need to know it. Joyce has dispensed her wedding wisdom on KRON, NBC11, and ABC7 in San Francisco and Los Angeles, among other television programs, and she currently serves on the Advisory Board of Catering Magazine.

Respected and adored by peers and clients, Events of Distinction is a jewel among those in the nuptial know: they are on preferred vendor lists at the Julia Morgan Ballroom, the Kohl Mansion, Ralston Hall, Carneros Inn and other venues. Events of Distinction has been honored as one of the nation’s top wedding designers with prestigious awards: the Gala Award for Best Wedding from Special Events Magazine and the WESTIE Award from the International Special Events Society.
