If the hallmark of an accomplished wedding coordinator is her ability to stay cool under pressure, then Marla Lackey is a planner extraordinaire. Years ago Marla worked as a 911 dispatcher orchestrating a complex network of help, followed by a long stint in the hospitality industry. When she became a wedding coordinator, the skills she had honed in her earlier careers transferred perfectly into the world of ceremonies and receptions.

Among her peers, Marla, owner of Cheers to You!, is considered unflappable and extremely friendly; she handles the emotions and occasional snafu of the wedding day with total grace. “Recently, I worked on a wedding with Marla which was televised for the Dr. Phil Show,” says one vendor. “As you can imagine, it was a high-pressure situation for everyone. We all thought, Wow, millions of people will see this!’ But Marla was the glue that kept everyone organized, informed and, of course, smiling. In my eyes, it was a success due to her professionalism.”

Whether it’s a high-profile TV marriage or a more intimate family affair, Marla knows how to connect with her clients, respecting each one’s wishes and pocket book. “Marla was great at accommodating us, even though we were working on a fairly tight budget,” says one happy bride who used her services. “She didn’t recommend or push extravagant, over-the-top suggestions she knew we couldn’t afford. She even pointed out clever ways of saving money that only she would know from all her years of experience.”

This flexibility and willingness to get creative means that Marla embraces all kinds of brides and ideas. She’s not afraid of doing something a little wild or funky that other coordinators might shy away from. Vendors and clients describe her as “cool” and “on the cutting edge.” “We just did a wedding with a laid-back, party type of crowd and Marla was perfect for them,” says one vendor. “She can be very straight, classy, and formal if that’s what the situation calls for. But she can also handle the unconventional bride. She’s fabulous, funny, and always gets the job done.”

Marla is able to create a celebration that suits any bride and groom, no matter how traditional or outlandish their taste. And of course, she brings her signature super-calm attitude to the table each time. When she talks about what keeps her going in this fast-paced business, her passion for the job is evident. “I was born to do this and I love the entire atmosphere of wedding days,” she explains. “I also love putting together the team and the event. For me, the ultimate compliment is seeing the bride’s joy when she experiences all that we’ve planned come to life.”

Background

Marla Lackey’s valuable, hands-on experience includes ten years in the food and beverage industry and eight years coordinating and planning weddings. She has a Bachelors degree in Business Management, as well as Professional Wedding Certification from IWCA and ABC. Marla has been featured on “A Wedding Story” on The Learning Channel and has a wedding being showcased on “Dr. Phil” in summer 2005.

Cheers To You! offers a variety of packages from total event coordination—including location search and negotiation—to consultation on an hourly basis. Marla can assist with your day-after brunch arrangements, travel arrangements, and review of all vendor contracts. She also helps with out-of-state planning for those who are in California and want an event elsewhere or those who are elsewhere and would like a California event. You’ll appreciate her creative and thoughtful suggestions to keep costs down.

When your event day arrives, Marla and her team of coordinators will take care of all of the details so the only thing you have to do is lift your champagne glass and enjoy your celebration!
