About This Company
The artists at B & G Photography have more than a casual understanding of the thrills and challenges of weddings and married life. You see, this tag-team of gifted photographers consists of exactly two people—Jen and Nate Berggren —who have been married to each other since 2003. They met at art school, and eventually started a wedding photography business to explore a non-formulaic approach to picture-taking. As a couple, they enjoy an easy communication and understanding of the marriage process; as photographers, they share an artistic sensibility and a mission to deliver candid, humorous, and soulful shots.
For Jen and Nate, there’s no such thing as a “must have” or typical wedding image. They’ve developed a more open-ended and creative way of working that allows events to unfold naturally. Often, this method yields unexpected and downright entertaining photos: a bride giggling freely with her bridesmaids, a groom in shades showing off his ring, and family members mingling organically on the dance floor. Jen and Nate traffic in laughs, smiles, sideways glances, and the festive nature of every ceremony and reception; stiff or extremely posed pictures are nowhere to be found. “We prefer to be flies on the wall and capture moments as they happen, instead of creating them,” says Jen.
Jen and Nate’s fun-loving personalities also offer a counterpoint to the intensity of the special day. They have a laid-back intimacy from being married, and more than one client has described them as warm and loving folks. “They just have a way with people,” says a bride. “They’re great at working with everyone.” Far from being simply a photographer and a second shooter, they are a dedicated team of professionals who love each other—and what they do. “They stand out because they have a great connection together, and are simply a blast to be around,” another bride explains. “I felt like they became our friends.”
The Berggrens’ friendliness extends from the initial meeting to the wedding day and even to final album design. Constant contact with couples is the norm for them, and they truly put the customer first. “Leading up to the event, they were very organized,” says a bride. “On the day, Jen was with me all day and helped keep me calm. Then, they got the photos to me very quickly and put some shots up on their blog the next day so we had instant results.”
