Why We Like This Place
It may look like simply another nice hotel from the outside, but as soon as you step into the marble-clad lobby of the Westin Palo Alto you experience its extraordinary appeal. This boutique-style venue combines clean, harmonious Feng Shui with a cosmopolitan sophistication that is warmed by understated Mediterranean architecture. Facing the entrance, a sleek marble staircase is flanked by a tableau of up-lit Oriental ferns in creamy ceramic vases. Above you, a ceiling inset with a serene shade of sky-blue introduces the hotel’s design motif: celestial.
The expansive feeling of connection to heavenly elements is most artfully realized in the hotel’s peaceful garden courtyards. Each is defined by two five-storied façades, whose guest room windows are embellished with wrought-iron balconies and pastel-hued shutters that recall Old World town squares. The Court of the Moon & Stars is favored by many brides for ceremonies because of its striking water feature: Along one ivy-decked wall, a row of fountain urns the color of cobalt blue overflow with water into a rectangular pool. At night, white globes glow like full moons in the background. Opposite this wall are French doors opening to a luxurious fireplace suite, often reserved by the bridal couple for the perfect grand entrance. Your attendants and overnight guests might stay in the other rooms overlooking the courtyard, turning it into your own private party haven.
But feel free to spread your event out into other delightful enclaves. The Court of the Sun features a bronze sundial at its center, cheerful yellow umbrellas, and a trellis climbing with golden honeysuckle. A large celadon fountain urn gurgles at the center of the Court of the Wind, while reeds and grasses arch along one wall as if bending to a gentle breeze. Either of these are pleasant spots for a social hour or an al fresco reception; or serve cocktails in the Court of Water around the swimming pool!
Indoor receptions are equally charming in the sumptuous Siena-Carrara Ballroom, commodious enough to accommodate your exclusive fête while still keeping things cozy. Leave the doors open, and guests can meander into the tastefully appointed Foyer, furnished with club chairs and sofas for relaxed conversation.
The Westin Palo Alto caters to intimate celebrations, that convivial kind of gathering where you’re actually well-acquainted with each guest. Since yours is the one and only event on site, the Westin staff is dedicated to making it quite special indeed.
You would expect a venue with such style and personal service to be very costly; however, Westin offers reasonably priced wedding packages that include champagne and butler-passed hors d’oeuvres for the social hour; plated gourmet dinner with wine; elegant centerpieces; and a complimentary suite for the newlyweds. Speaking of wedding nights: Most of the hotel suites include romantic touches like a fireplace and whirlpool tub, and all rooms have Westin’s signature Heavenly Bed, which boasts “10 layers of comfort”…so if you and your new spouse decide to leave the “do not disturb” sign on your door indefinitely, everyone will understand.
