Why We Like This Place

This wonderful old Victorian mansion, formerly known as the Bee-Bennett House, can’t help but catch the eye of even the most modern bride. From its perch atop a knoll, it immediately captures your attention with its multi-gabled roof, wraparound porch and beautiful period details. Built in 1853 (by a business tycoon whose fortune was partly amassed from the Pony Express), it’s held court here ever since, mainly as a private residence. In 2002, it was restored and turned into a popular restaurant by current owners Nello and Danica Olivo, and today this outstanding example of “gold rush era” elegance continues to glitter in its latest incarnation—an utterly charming special event venue managed by Wedgewood Wedding & Banquet Centers.

Getting married at the mansion is like being the heroine of a historic novel. The experience begins in the upstairs Bridal Room, decorated in rich red velvet. As you look out the window, you can watch your guests take their seats near a lily pond beneath the shade of a majestic Sequoia. When you’re ready, step outside and descend the graceful dual staircase to The Lawn, a sweeping grass and garden area where vows are exchanged. For an even more dramatic entrance, arrive at Sequoia’s circular drive via a horse-drawn carriage.

Smaller ceremonies can also be held on The Patio, an intimate flagstone terrace around the side of the building that’s planted with lush greenery and another towering Sequoia next to the altar. There’s plenty of room to arrange tables for cocktails or dinner afterwards.

Several indoor ceremony and reception choices are available as well, starting with Victoria Hall, a chapel-like space when lit with stately candelabras, and the glass-enclosed, light-filled Veranda, which overlooks the lawn and evokes a bygone era.

The Dining Room, with its comfortable couches and an adjoining bar, is ideal for serving cocktails, but if you’re a wine lover Sequoia offers a unique option: a wine tasting hosted in the stone cellar with selections from the owners’ private NelloOlivo Vineyards.

The magnificent Empire Room is the perfect setting for a regal reception. Eight glass-and-brass Victorian-style chandeliers drop from the soaring, open-beamed cathedral ceiling, casting a warm glow over elegantly decked tables and a hardwood dance floor. Off to one side, there’s a draped stage for a band, DJ or sweetheart table. If you like, you can use the adjoining Veranda for a buffet setup or additional seating.

Of course, photo ops abound throughout the mansion, with gilded mirrors, arched windows and a curved staircase serving as memorable backdrops. And whether it’s adding your own personal touches to the décor or creating your menu, the staff will do its best to help you realize your dream wedding. Fees & Deposits

25% of the estimated event total is required to reserve your date. The next 25% is due 120 days prior to the event and the balance is due 10 days prior. Meals range $24–31/person. Tax, alcohol and a 21–22% service charge are additional.
