Why We Like This Place
The lovely green fairways and Spanish Colonial buildings of Wedgewood Carmel are spread out on a spacious plateau in beautiful Carmel Valley. The road into the club winds through nicely landscaped grounds, past a small pond fringed with bamboo and golden poppies bathed in sunshine. Forested hillsides form a picturesque backdrop, and by the time you park your car, you’re already surrendering to the serene, relaxed mood.
There are no pretensions here, just friendly professional service and appealing event spaces. Resting on land that was once part of a Spanish rancho, this historic facility pays homage to its heritage with classic Iberian architecture and décor that hints at the romantic days of Spanish grandees and exotic beauties in lace mantillas. The beige-toned buildings sport red-tile roofs, dark wood trim and arched doorways; tall oaks and fragrant pine trees, manicured hedges and flowerpots provide color.
Most gatherings begin in the heart of the golf club: the Fountain Courtyard. Guests enter a covered patio with wooden beams, ginger-colored wall tiles, and a stone wood-burning fireplace. The rest of the courtyard is under open sky, with a splashing fountain at the center providing a tranquil vision and hacienda flair. Garden beds in the corners spill over with blooms in a cheerful rhapsody of scarlet, yellow and magenta, while graceful saplings look on from the sidelines. In this clement section of Carmel Valley, guests enjoy hors d’oeuvres and champagne in this pretty plaza or mingle in the tastefully appointed foyer just inside before retiring to one of the adjacent banquet rooms for the reception.
The Fiesta Ballroom is a commodious event space with wood-beam ceiling and skylights contributing to an open, airy quality. Elaborate Mission-style chandeliers capture Old World elegance, and expansive picture windows make it seem as if your reception is set among the oak groves and camellia bushes, with everything cradled by the hilly vistas. Smaller gatherings enjoy the Merienda Room. It also features a vaulted open-beam ceiling and rustic fixtures. Creative accents include an alcove that showcases a framed watercolor and stone sculpture, and a series of beveled mirrors that add sparkle to a corner of the room. A wall of picture windows captures the cascading green fairways, adorned with clusters of trees and flowers and surrounded by the majestic hills. You can admire the view up close on the Merienda’s outdoor patio, which is also suitable for cocktails or even a wedding ceremony.
The setting is not this venue’s only inviting attribute—so is the very reasonable price tag. The Club offers several all-inclusive packages of savory sit-down dinners or lavish buffets that take you from champagne toast to after-dinner coffee for a modest charge and lots of extras. And if you want to make golf part of your weekend, you’ll get discounted rates for that as well.
Though this facility is open to the public, the welcoming ambiance and quality service is on par with that of an exclusive country club. And the prestigious Carmel Valley location, just a few minutes from the fabled Carmel Mission and legendary beaches, will make your guests feel even more privileged to attend your special event.
