Why We Like This Place

The Wedgewood at Foxtail Golf Club is one of the Wine Country’s newest wedding locations, offering both class and outstanding value. The 36-hole municipal golf course sits in the middle of Rohnert Park, a friendly community just south of Santa Rosa and an hour north of San Francisco. With trees blocking out most of the surrounding suburbs, all you see from the 125 feet of floor-to-ceiling windows in the Banquet Center are velvety greens, the occasional golfer, and a duck or two heading for the pond just off the 9th hole.

Yes, only a short stroll from the center lies a calm green pond looking newly transplanted from the English countryside. Complete with weeping willows, waterfowl and a lacy white gazebo bordered by roses, it’s an idyllic setting for exchanging vows. In addition to being very pretty, this waterside spot accommodates 300 seated guests, all comfortably facing away from the sun.

Weddings are held year-round in either an afternoon or an evening time slot, but they never overlap. In winter, couples get married inside before an arch and floral displays the facility sets up. During the warmer months, the bride changes in a room off the Banquet Center, then comes out through double doors along a curving walkway to the gazebo for the service. While the couple poses for pictures afterwards, guests walk up a red carpet into the center, a 3,300-square-foot, airy white hall filled with natural light from the expanse of windows. Everyone enjoys appetizers and drinks in the bar area until the newlyweds are announced and take their place at the head table. Since there are no noise restrictions, you can party until midnight.

With five all-inclusive packages available, your only concern is transportation and, of course, the dress. Catering runs the gamut from a buffet with BBQ chicken and a no-host bar to a sit-down dinner with “duet” entrées like filet mignon and salmon bearnaise accompanied by a hosted full bar. You can add extras like a cappuccino bar with petit fours and chocolate-covered strawberries, but all packages include a DJ and music, a dance floor, invitations, a choice of linen colors and help with planning the affair. In some cases, a wedding night room at a premium local hotel is part of the package.

“We take the headache out of parties,” says Bill Zaruka, whose family operates Wedgewood Foxtail and several other venues in California that collectively oversee some 700 weddings a year. “We know what we’re doing—and we do it right,” he promises. Part of doing it right is being flexible, and Zaruka assures us that they are happy to customize their all-inclusive packages to suit the particular needs of their clients. Thus, a Russian couple enjoyed borscht at their reception, and a Vietnamese pair held a tea ceremony. Some couples have released butterflies during the ceremony, while one even rolled their Harley out to the gazebo for photos.

Although Wedgewood Foxtail is popular for weddings, it also hosts golf tournaments, fundraisers, retirement parties and civic luncheons. “We’re unpretentious,” Bill notes. “But the food is always hot, presented well, and our filet mignon is cooked to perfection!”

25% of the estimated event total is required to reserve your date. The next 25% is due 120 days prior to the event and the balance is due 10 days prior. All-inclusive packages start at $26/person. Tax, alcohol and a 21–22% service charge are additional.
