Why You'll Love This Place

A Here Comes The Guide Wedding Venue Review

Even in a city known for an abundance of landmarks and iconic architecture, this 1874 Greek-revival stunner stands out. Affectionately called The Granite Lady, The Mint once held a third of the nation’s wealth before closing in 1937. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1961, it’s been largely off the public’s radar until recently. Now, while local officials review plans to turn it into a museum in the future, couples may enjoy a rare—and limited-time—opportunity to host a truly memorable wedding here.

With its grand façade, classic columns, sweeping staircase entry, and antique gas street lamps, this imposing structure provides a dramatic welcome for your guests—not to mention a striking backdrop for photos. Throughout the entire property, which encompasses 92,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space, you’ll find an intriguing mix of 19th-century architectural details and modern conveniences. Stately ballrooms contrast with fun, quirky rooms where officials once weighed coins and stacked ingots for safekeeping. Brick walls, a checkerboard marble floor, a long hallway, and shafts of natural light put a creative spin on traditional dressing rooms for the bride and groom.

The expansive Courtyard, enclosed by the building, is a favorite spot for an al fresco ceremony with sky views and total privacy. Try adding market lights, colorful LED projections, or a profusion of greenery to make the space your own. If you prefer exchanging vows indoors, the Column Ballroom is ideal with a center aisle, light wood floor, high ceiling, and windows on both sides. Then mingle over cocktails outside … or segue directly to the Mint or Gold Ballroom. Each features a 30-foot high ceiling, gold-and-glass globe chandeliers, carved wood wainscoting, and an ornate, iron-railed wraparound mezzanine. And both are yours to enjoy. In fact, you can incorporate virtually all of the The Mint’s spaces into your celebration—even the gold vaults on the lower level (for an extra fee).

This fabulously unique property is managed by Non Plus Ultra, the Bay Area’s leading venue activation firm. In addition to their professional staff, they offer several packages that include furnishings, lighting, design consultation, and outside vendor negotiations—all of which makes planning your wedding a lot easier.

It’s not often you get to be one of the first—and maybe one of the last—couples to be able to share such a special place with those nearest and dearest to you. So don’t delay taking a tour, because The Mint is truly a goldmine of possibilities.
