Why We Like This Place
Set atop prestigious Nob Hill, The Ritz-Carlton is housed in one of San Francisco’s finest examples of neoclassical architecture. Originally built in 1909, the block-long structure has an impressive and stately façade. When you step inside, you’re greeted by an updated version of The Ritz-Carlton’s signature style. An expansive marble-clad lobby sets a sleek, modern tone, while crystal chandeliers and enormous fresh floral arrangements add understated sophistication. The adjoining lounge is both contemporary and supremely elegant, with floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the bustling Financial District and bring in natural light.
The first level also holds a magnificent setting for large celebrations—the Ballroom and adjacent galleries. With high vaulted ceilings, ornate woodwork, large oil paintings, and gold-toned silk-covered walls, the spacious galleries provide a luxurious area for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. Seated receptions follow in the Ballroom, a regal yet warm venue that can be partitioned into smaller sections. Light glows from spectacular crystal chandeliers suspended from a recessed oval ceiling, and walls are softened by panels of patterned, muted gold silk brocade. The hotel’s second and third levels offer additional event spaces, each of which can be used for a private rehearsal dinner or intimate receptions. All are tastefully designed with light wood molding and wainscoting.
Then there’s the Terrace Room, the Ritz-Carlton’s newest place to party. It enjoys abundant natural light and opens to the Terrace Bar, a roomy and convenient spot for social-hour mingling. The Terrace Room’s most exciting attribute, however, is its direct access to the red-bricked Terrace Courtyard. Enclosed by an impeccably manicured garden of roses, lavender, ivy and flowers, the fragrant courtyard also boasts a striking cityscape, making it a sublime choice for outdoor gatherings. Glass-topped tables with umbrellas and chairs dot the courtyard, and the central portion can be tented to accommodate a ceremony or dining if the weather doesn’t cooperate.
Remember, The Ritz Carlton has a long tradition as hospitality experts, so ask your event professional about arranging for a bridal shower afternoon tea, a martini night for the bachelor party or a day-after brunch.
And after the festivities there’s no need to rush off—the bride and groom can unwind in one of the hotel’s two Presidential Suites, and be whisked to the airport the next day by a hotel-arranged limousine service.
