Why We Like This Place
You would never in a million years guess that it was there. It’s woodsy and flowery, with splashing fountains—perfect for taking the most idyllic of wedding photos. Yet the recently remodeled Freedom Hall and Gardens is right in the middle of Silicon Valley’s high-tech empire in Santa Clara. What could be more convenient?
On weekends, this little oasis is as private and quiet as a desert island. Tucked away amid the silent office buildings, it’s practically invisible to anyone passing by. But oh what this place has to offer: a fountain-pond surrounded by carpets of colorful flowers; natural stone formations; towering redwoods and weeping willows; and butterflies flitting across the pond by the rocky waterfall.
Ceremonies here are lovely. Picture your guests seated on the lawn at one end of the pond. You glide across the bridge spanning the water in front of them, and down the grassy aisle to stand in front of the fountain with your husband-to-be. Your music plays (via the professional outdoor sound system) as clouds drift through the blue sky overhead.
After exchanging vows, you and the wedding party walk the few yards to Freedom Hall, whose floor-to-ceiling windows command a panorama of the gardens. While the guests assemble, you wait in the Bride’s Room, decorated with glass cases displaying a collection of wedding favors commemorating every wedding at Freedom Hall since the first one in 1995. You make your grand entrance through the bridal arch into the hall.
Dinner is served in the completely transformed Hall, which now features a gleaming hardwood floor, a granite bar, and Tuscan-inspired wrought-iron chandeliers. But the facility’s most beautiful “decoration” is its view of the gardens. Guests are free to stroll outside, champagne glasses in hand, and meander along the winding brick paths through the redwoods.
Although the setting is quite appealing, what you don’t see is the well-coordinated operation behind the event. Freedom Hall and Gardens hosts 170 weddings a year, and they know their stuff. The venue is Diamond-certified, which means that brides and grooms who were married here have been interviewed by an independent organization to determine the rate of customer satisfaction. Freedom Hall has consistently achieved a near-perfect score. It’s not surprising that Freedom Hall and Gardens was voted “Best Wedding Reception Facility” by The Knot magazine from 2007 through 2012.
The cuisine features classic American dishes such as a chef’s carving station with New York roast steak, chicken Madeira, rice pilaf, pasta marinara, steamed vegetables and fresh-baked breads. There’s a selection of passed hors d’oeuvres such as jumbo prawns, stuffed mushrooms and blue cheese pastries. As for dessert, any menu you choose includes complimentary chocolate-dipped strawberries as a sweet surprise before the wedding cake.
If you yearn for a ceremony in the redwoods, but your practical side requires a central location, Freedom Hall and Gardens offers both. You and your guests get the charm of a forest sanctuary, while being within walking distance of the Santa Clara Marriott and Great America. This place has everything you need.
