Why We Like This Place
We always get asked about mansions in San Francisco, and to tell you the truth, there aren’t many that can accommodate a large wedding reception indoors. Although the Bently Reserve is not a mansion, it possesses the stately, elegant and understated grandeur you’d expect from a palatial estate. And it can handle quite a crowd.
Originally part of the lobby of the 1924 Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, the Banking Hall where events are held is truly awe-inspiring. This remarkable space is a fine example of San Francisco’s “banking temple” tradition and the government’s penchant for monumental classical architecture during that era.
Everywhere you look you’ll see French and Italian marble (or a close facsimile). Expertly painted faux marbling has transformed the two rows of 25-foot-tall Ionic columns that line the room into “rock-solid” architectural elements. The entry doors are solid bronze, and two spectacular bronze chandeliers (designed by the architect) draw your eyes up to the soaring 34-foot ceiling overhead. If you’d like to make a theatrical entrance, descend the imperial bronze-and-marble double stairway, which flows from the mezzanine down to the gleaming marble main floor.
Bently Reserve’s most recent addition is the versatile Couples Lounge. Designed by Blueprint Studios, a renowned San Francisco event design firm, the lounge gives wedding parties a place to get ready and provides couples with a private space to relax before the big event. The room is both stylish and comfortable, with mocha-colored walls, a bar illuminated with purple LCD lighting, and sleek, creamy-white furnishings with purple accents. A 46” flat screen TV linked to a camera inside the Banking Hall allows couples to view the arrival of their guests and other activities taking place in the hall.
The Banking Hall has been beautifully restored, and the building in which it’s housed is included in the National Register of Historic Places. So if you have an extended guest list and are searching for a unique and impressive location in The City, you couldn’t ask for a better spot.
