The collective creativity of entrepreneurs, artists and tech whizzes has made SOMA the hippest neighborhood in The City, vibrating with a diversity of businesses, restaurants, clubs and galleries.

One of the most intriguing of these is Terra Gallery & Event Venue, a collection of newly renovated galleries and event spaces that epitomizes the synergy of art and technology. At this urban-chic venue, just blocks from the Bay Bridge, you’re encouraged to turn your celebration into a work of art—literally. The whole place is like a big blank canvas on which you can paint whatever vision you have in mind. Terra’s two diverse levels have separate entrances, so you can reserve a floor individually or take over all the galleries and offer your guests multiple environments.

Terra Gallery’s upper floor has a spacious, open feeling thanks to 5,000 square feet of Brazilian cherry hardwood floors, white brick walls and support columns rising 20 feet to the ceiling. The most arresting feature is at the end of the room, where 40 feet of floor-to-ceiling windows showcase the downtown skyline. Light pours in during the day, and at night city lights turn the wall of glass into a vast glittering tableau—a dreamy backdrop for a wedding ceremony. A carpeted area with leather furniture and a baby grand piano lets guests relax and enjoy the view.

Equally impressive is Mer, a lounge-style space on the lower floor that gives off the ultra-hip vibe of a private club. Serpentine bars inlaid with glass tiles let the staff serve up signature cocktails with style and ease. A built-in oak stage at one end holds your entertainment, while guests dance on the gleaming hardwood floor. Mer adjoins a 3,000-square-foot landscaped patio, which can be left open to the stars or elegantly tented. Bamboo, lush foliage and water features evoke a garden atmosphere for cocktails or an outdoor ceremony.

Terra’s staff will work with you and your planners to ensure that your wedding is seamlessly choreographed. You’re welcome to incorporate the current exhibit’s paintings and sculptures into your event, or turn Terra into your own personal gallery by exhibiting blown-up photos of the bride and groom on the walls, or projecting a slide show set to music. Terra’s state-of-the art Bose sound system, in-house TerraPod photo booth, gallery lighting and multimedia capabilities allow for the ultimate in customization. And if you’re having a destination wedding here, they’re able to provide a live feed to guests who can’t attend.

You’re free to bring your own licensed caterer, and there’s plenty of nearby parking with valet service available upon request. To make it easy for out-of-town guests who want to take advantage of nearby museums, entertainment and sightseeing, Terra has partnered with local hotels for special group rates.

Fees & Deposits

A $1,000 deposit is required to reserve your date. The balance is due 30 days prior to the event. Rental fees range $4,500–11,000 depending on date of event, guest count, facility usage and type of organization.
