Tenaya Lodge at Yosemite

Why We Like This Place

With its magnificent soaring peaks, backwoods trails and legendary panoramas, Yosemite National Park is a cherished natural treasure. It’s also a destination wedding locale like no other, attracting couples who yearn to pledge their love enfolded by Mother Nature.

One of the most congenial places in Yosemite to tie the knot is Tenaya Lodge, the first hotel to bring the luxuries of a classic resort to this awe-inspiring wilderness. Built in 1990, the four-diamond lodge is a resplendent blend of the earthy and the contemporary. The spacious lobby boasts a vaulted ceiling, and natural materials like wood, stone and leather create a rich, warm ambiance. A cut-slate floor holds a huge stone fireplace, and whimsical mountain artifacts (a snowshoe, a miniature cabin) enliven the walls. Native American influences are reflected in the carpets and furnishings, and the overall impression is one of refined comfort.

Tenaya’s banquet spaces also embody rustic elegance, and put Yosemite’s scenic wonders on display during your fête. The newest ceremony site, the Terrace, is a second-story outdoor deck fringed with feathery pine trees that are close enough to touch. A simple wrought-iron pergola frames the couple against this verdant expanse and an endless blue sky. After the vows, guests descend a flight of stairs to the open-sided Pavilion for another angle on the lovely scenery. Cocktail tables are clustered on one side, while dinner is served beneath the Pavilion’s honey-hued wood ceiling, trimmed with twinkle lights. If you prefer an indoor celebration, then reserve the 10,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom. Tasteful and contemporary, it boasts floor-to-ceiling windows that look out to the stunning mountains carpeted in sugar pines. For a smaller reception, book the Forest View Room, affording equally beautiful vistas.

Intimate ceremonies are magical in the Wedding Garden, a private lawn nestled among a copse of trees. Enclosed by a wooden fence and a stone archway, the quaint garden features an artistic metal sculpture of a leafy bough that doubles as a wedding arch. The staff can also arrange an off-the-beaten-path ceremony—just ask.

The lodge is a haven for green weddings—the banquet rooms are Double Silver LEED-certified, and the cuisine is local and sustainable. Tenaya has four dining options: the casual Jackalope’s Bar and Grill for fun after-parties; the family-friendly Timberloft Pizzeria; the Sierra Restaurant, which includes an outdoor patio with fire pit; and the upscale Embers for romantic fireside dining and exquisite organic seasonal menus. Any of these can be reserved for your rehearsal dinner, depending on your desired atmosphere.

Yosemite’s rugged grandeur, made famous by photographer Ansel Adams’ indelible images, will enhance your own wedding photos, too. Tenaya’s knowledgeable event planning professionals can point out the best backdrops, as well as arrange activities for your guests. Nature lovers can feed their souls with spectacular sunsets and scintillating starscapes. The more adventurous might like to golf, bike, ice skate, ride horses or hike to a waterfall. Meanwhile, the bride will probably want to unwind at Ascent Spa. Bridal spa packages, along with 12 treatment rooms, steam rooms and a sauna, offer a wealth of pampering so that when it’s time for the bride to make her grand entrance, she’ll be as serene as the surrounding landscape.

Well-appointed accommodations include spa suites, but we recommend the newlyweds cuddle up in one of the secluded cottage-style rooms with fireplaces for quality alone-time. Think of Tenaya Lodge at Yosemite as “Happiness in the High Sierras!”
