Why We Like This Place
As you approach Napa Valley’s northern limit the terrain becomes bolder, with lush, densely wooded hills. At the heart of this striking landscape you’ll find Solage, a very green, very stylish, very accommodating resort & spa. Created with an exquisite sense of space and flow, Solage is a place where you can expect all the comforts and cosseting that a posh resort can provide in an atmosphere of relaxed luxury.
Best of all, Solage is a place where you can orchestrate as elaborate a wedding as you want, yet ratchet down all the tensions and worries that can come with it. That’s because the powers that be here are masters at banishing pre-wedding jitters. They can arrange to have your party arrive a day or two early and unwind in accommodations that cluster around what is essentially a private courtyard. (They can be subtle, too—if Aunt Mabel doesn’t get along with Uncle Ned, Solage will discreetly keep the two blissfully apart.) The resort also understands a bride’s other concerns: They give you an opportunity to walk through the wedding and reception site two hours before your ceremony to make sure that everything is just the way you want it.
The prime wedding venue is Solage’s main pavilion, Solstice, an expertly designed space where any kind of decorative theme you can imagine is doable. Huge floor-to-ceiling glass doors open to a terrace and lawn that face the soaring Palisades Mountains and a glimpse of Mt. St. Helena, the Bay Area’s tallest peak. Brides often make a dramatic entrance onto the lawn from Solstice to begin their ceremony. Solage sets up a bar and post-ceremony reception in the adjoining courtyard, then invites guests back into Solstice for dinner and dancing.
The resort’s standout architecture has been coined “Napa barn meets San Francisco loft.” Solage’s sleek barn-like buildings, with their steep roofs, clapboard siding and artful use of metal and glass, all overlook courtyards or lawns. Oaks, olive trees, Canary Island date palms, lavender and herbs grow profusely. Everything—furniture, fountains and art—is attractively simple and made from the very best products. Another bonus is that Solage is a thoroughly green-oriented resort, employing sustainable building materials and state-of-the-art power generation and conservation.
The spa, encompassing 20,000 square feet and 14 private treatment rooms, is downright sensational, offering an array of facials, body treatments and massages in tranquil surroundings, including geothermal pools and their signature mud bar (fresh mud—nothing recycled!). Many brides relax here pre- and post-celebration. Some even arrange for private yoga classes the morning of their wedding.
In addition to on-site spa indulgences, bocce ball, fitness facilities and swimming, Calistoga’s restaurants and shops are a five-minute bike ride away (two complimentary cruiser bikes come with each overnight accommodation). There’s also easy highway access—and close proximity—to Napa’s finest wineries, as well as neighboring Alexander and Dry Creek Valleys.
This is a chic, sophisticated retreat with an astounding variety of services, all delivered with a true “yes mentality.” Solage’s greatest attribute, however, is making you feel more content in body and mind than you ever dreamed possible.
