Why We Like This Place

Occupying the penthouse floor of the Knight Ridder Building in the heart of downtown, the Silicon Valley Capital Club has always enjoyed some of the most spectacular views to be found anywhere in San Jose. But since its recent multimillion-dollar renovation, this private club has also become one of the hottest event sites in the South Bay.

Those stunning 360-degree panoramas are just the beginning: A winning combination of indoor and outdoor spaces can be used together to create a fabulous flow during your celebration.

Festivities begin the moment your guests arrive at the top floor. The elevator doors open to the Vertex Lounge, a terrific, visually striking place to host the cocktail hour. Weathered barn wood recycled from local wineries and farms has been incorporated into the walls, lending a rustic warmth. But all eyes are drawn to the centerpiece of the room—the bar, which is lit from end to end by a stunning “chandelier” comprised of dozens of illuminated glass cylinders that drop from the ceiling. The lounge happens to have its own outdoor aerie, the Sky Terrace, which is outfitted with casual seating and firepits. From here you can watch the sun set and the city come alive, as night falls and a glittering carpet of lights spreads out below.

When it’s time for dinner, everyone moves into the main ballroom, a contemporary and elegant space with two walls of floor-to-ceiling glass overlooking the city. Designed in neutral shades of gray, the décor is compatible with just about any color scheme. Unusual amber-tinted glass chandeliers make the room sparkle, and you can modulate the mood even more with additional uplighting. The view is visible from every seat in the house, as is the wedding cake, which is gloriously showcased in a windowed alcove against the backdrop of the city. The ballroom’s South Terrace gives you even more options: This al fresco deck can be set up with cocktail tables for mingling before and after the reception, and also serves as a lofty spot for guests to take a break from dining and dancing.

If you’re hosting an intimate affair or rehearsal dinner, you might want to reserve one of the Capital Club’s six smaller event rooms. They all provide sweeping vistas, and some have private balconies.

At such an elevated place you’d expect equally high-level cuisine and the Capital Club does not disappoint. Their Michelin-Star chef uses locally sourced seafood and “Farm to Table” produce, prime grass-fed beef, and other fresh ingredients in a wide range of dishes, from classic comfort food with a twist to more innovative choices based on cutting-edge cooking techniques. He’s happy to develop a menu specifically for your occasion.

Experienced planners will assist with all the details ensuring that your event comes off perfectly, so whether you’re hosting a wedding, a private party or a corporate gala, you and your guests will feel like you’re on top of the world.

Fees & Deposits

A $5,000 nonrefundable deposit is required to book the club. Food and beverage service is provided; meals run $25–110/person. Half of the estimated catering total is due 90 days prior to event and the balance 96 hours prior. Alcohol, tax and a 22% service charge are additional, as are ceremony setup fees.
