Sausalito Woman’s Club

Why We Like This Place

This landmark is a craftsman-style Julia Morgan building, a bit hidden in a residential neighborhood in the Sausalito hills overlooking San Francisco Bay. Since its dedication as a woman’s club in 1918, it’s been one of Marin’s preferred places for weddings and receptions. It not only has a very pretty, woodsy setting with views of the bay, it has both indoor and outdoor spaces that can be used for special events—and that’s a real bonus.

The modest brown-shingle structure is designed with the simple and understated detailing typical of Arts and Crafts period structures. Indoors, the main room has an ample stage, original fixtures, hardwood floor and large windows that keep the space well lit during the day. Multiple French doors open onto a small brick patio sheltered by mature oaks, a lovely spot for mingling. The landscaping is well maintained, and although there’s a canopy of trees surrounding the Woman’s Club, you can still catch an incredible view of the bay.

Unpretentious, yet stately, the Woman’s Club fits into the neighborhood perfectly—you’d hardly know it’s there. Consequently, it’s a bit hard to find, but when you do, you’ll consider it—and the pleasant drive through the Sausalito hills—well worth the trip.
