Why We Like This Place
Set in the oak-clad hills of Sausalito just across the Golden Gate Bridge, this historic church has occupied its enviable location overlooking San Francisco Bay for more than a hundred years. And for almost as long, it’s been a very special place to exchange vows. People of all faiths and nationalities, as well as gay and lesbian couples are welcome.
With its redwood-shingle exterior, the Craftsman-style church blends effortlessly into the surrounding oaks, dogwood trees and greenery. Step inside, however, and you find yourself in architectural heaven: Sunlight streams in through tall, arched windows and leaded-glass skylights, bringing out the warmth of the wooden pews and the rich redwood paneling throughout. A dramatic pyramid-shaped, vaulted ceiling draws your eye upwards and lends a sense of grandeur to the space. Rustic wood-and-glass chandeliers and 20 wall sconces cast a romantic glow. The church’s organ—which can duplicate any instrument from a delicate harp to a fortissimo trumpet—combined with a state-of-the-art sound system lets you create a custom musical ambiance for your ceremony.
After saying “I do,” lead your guests through the garden and down the steps to Thomson Hall for the reception. The spacious room features lustrous Australian hardwood floors and dark wood trim and wainscoting, which contrast beautifully with the white walls. A baby grand piano lets you add live music to your celebration. Natural light flows in through a wall of leaded-glass windows that look out to the adjacent courtyard, a lovely spot for mingling over champagne and appetizers or just enjoying the sunshine and sea breezes. If you’d like a larger venue for your reception, there are many fine hotels and restaurants nearby to choose from.
When you get married at Sausalito Presbyterian Church, you get not only an exquisite wedding site, but also a wedding director, a music director/composer and a minister to help guide you through your entire event—including your vows. Another plus: The wedding director is an experienced floral designer who’s happy to provide this additional service for an extra fee.
Picturesque, inclusive and easily accessible from most Bay Area cities, The Sausalito Presbyterian Church will impress you with its architectural and spiritual charm.
