Why We Like This Place
The name might suggest a humble little structure, but the Presidio Log Cabin is anything but. Although it is made of logs, it’s more like a grand hunting lodge, with its solid fieldstone foundation and spacious interior.
Formerly the NCO Club for the army’s Airborne Division, this unique 1937 building has seen its share of festivities. And luckily for us, its sturdy timbers have always been beautifully maintained. Ceiling beams and columns are made of actual tree trunks, and there are giant wagon wheel chandeliers overhead. The Old West flavor feels authentic here, and adds a fun element to parties without being over the top. Casual events like company picnics often play up the country-western theme by incorporating cowboy costumes, country music and square dancing. However, for wedding receptions and formal dinner parties, all it takes is candles and flowers to make the place glow with a rustic elegance. In fact, when the huge fireplace is lit and the room is warmed by guests dancing and celebrating, the ambiance is downright cozy.
During warm weather, the Log Cabin is great for an indoor/outdoor event. Get married on the expansive front lawn, either under a tent or in the open sunshine surrounded by nature. From here you have a view of the woods, the San Francisco skyline, and snippets of San Francisco Bay. Afterwards, host a cocktail reception on the large covered patio at the entrance of the Log Cabin. Often set up with small tables and chairs, it’s a wonderful spot for mingling. When it’s time for the reception, just invite your guests inside for dining and dancing.
You don’t come across many log cabins in a sophisticated city like San Francisco, and this may be the only one where you can have a smashing party. It’s also probably the only place where you can wear a tux or a cowboy hat and feel equally at home.
After the wedding there’s no need to rush off—consider staying the weekend at the new Inn at the Presidio. Formerly the bachelor officers’ quarters, this historic 1903 Georgian Revival-style building has been remodeled into an upscale lodge. It features an inviting front porch with rocking chairs, a dining room, and an outdoor deck with a fire pit. From here you can enjoy everything the Presidio has to offer, including miles of hiking trails, wild open spaces and public and cultural events.
