Why We Like This Place
Tucked in a quiet valley at the base of the majestic Sierra Nevada Mountains is a world-class hotel with all the charm of a mountain lodge. The PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn boasts a truly original look—one you won’t find anywhere else in Tahoe. The Lobby and guest rooms are done in muted earth tones and sumptuous fabrics, and display an exceptional melding of decorative elements: innovative metal sculpture, eye-catching furnishings and striking light fixtures that combine whimsy with copper, glass and chrome.
The ambiance of the main building continues through the adjacent event facility. Here a split-level ballroom features huge natural wood beams that crisscross beneath a high peaked ceiling, giving the entire space the feeling of an elegant cabin in the woods. Natural light, rich hues on the walls, and blond wood wainscoting create an understated sophistication. The highlight of the ballroom is the floor-to-ceiling views: snow-dusted mountains that seem close enough to touch, and a garden landscape bursting with springtime colors. The lower level holds the dining tables, while the upper level is often used for dancing or cake cutting. If you’re planning an intimate get-together, the ballroom can be divided into four sections by luxurious tapestry panels.
During the warmer months, as the snow melts and the wildflowers and waterfalls regain their glory, the inn becomes a haven for outdoor celebrations, held on the sun-splashed pool patio. Bordered by the event facility, the PlumpJack Cafe, and lofty aspens and pines, the patio has the rustic appeal of a village courtyard. Wedding ceremonies are staged against the dramatic backdrop of trees, rugged peaks and open sky. After the vows, have a cocktail hour and reception next to the pool on the patio’s raised level. Adjacent to the pool deck is a more secluded site for intimate ceremonies: Couples can wed atop a cut-stone deck on the bank of Squaw Creek, where pine trees, boulders and a mountain slope create a natural milieu.
Wherever you hold your event at the inn, it will be handled by a professional staff, known for their dedication and attention to detail. All event catering is provided exclusively by the inn’s renowned restaurant, the PlumpJack Cafe. Their menu focuses on innovative California cuisine, incorporating locally sourced, organic and seasonal ingredients. The Cafe also boasts an extensive wine list, which has received Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence for the past five years.
Your destination wedding at the inn treats your guests to luxuriously appointed accommodations, complete with complimentary gourmet breakfast buffet. And the inn makes a perfect base camp for exploring the breathtaking surroundings, including a jewel of a lake just a few minutes away. Recreational activities abound—biking, hiking, fishing and more.
PlumpJack’s designers have conceived something unique: a mountain inn, banquet facility and restaurant with both the avant-garde distinction of a cosmopolitan city and the fresh simplicity of a mountain retreat. Whether you dream of a winter wonderland wedding or exchanging vows in the pine-scented summer air, PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn lets you celebrate in the lap of nature any time of year.
