Why We Like This Place

Jack London would not recognize the place! The famous author-adventurer was a member of the Oakland Yacht Club from 1913 to 1916, when access was by dinghy only and members tied up at wood pilings driven into the mud. Today, the airy and well-appointed clubhouse occupies a quiet, park-like setting in a treelined Alameda neighborhood with views of the marina and the Oakland/Alameda Estuary and skyline. There’s no stress here. The atmosphere is relaxed, with a friendly staff that will make sure every aspect of your event is shipshape.

Your guests will have plenty of parking and easy access to the two-story facility via an elevator. And whether you’re planning an intimate celebration or a large reception, this flexible club can accommodate you.

The downstairs Regatta Room is perfect for a small cocktail party or meeting. It has a built-in wet bar, a sheltered patio, and an adjacent dressing/shower room. Plus its expansive windows afford excellent views of the marina and estuary where kayaks and sailboats drift by at eye level.

Medium to large events are held in the Commodore’s Hall upstairs. At the entrance, there’s ample space for your guests to check in with gifts and a vestibule that houses a cloakroom that can double as gift storage. Inside the hall, the pale blue interior mirrors the surrounding water and sky and creates a pleasant sense of peace and serenity.

Like the waters it rests beside, this gorgeous room has a natural flow and a nautical feel. Floor-to-ceiling windows on its north side open onto a series of individual balconies that are outfitted with fire pits and chairs and look down on the boats berthed in the marina below and out toward the East Bay hills and the dramatic Oakland skyline. At the far end of the hall, a built-in oak dance floor can also host an indoor ceremony or act as a stage; a circular oak bar anchors the opposite end of the room. Delectable cuisine is expertly prepared in the club kitchen and served by a well-trained staff. Add a podium for speakers, a pull-down screen, and a projector and you have a room fit for any occasion. There’s even a windowed alcove with city and sea vistas that’s just right for framing the couple’s first bite of cake.

The peaceful city park, situated between a tranquil lagoon and the picturesque marina, is an outdoor option for exchanging wedding vows. Oakland Yacht Club staff can arrange seating, flowers, an arch, chairs for your harpist or string quartet—whatever you want to personalize your ceremony. Nature provides the rest: live oaks, willow, birdsong and, of course, the spectacular estuary view.

An attractive hotel next door to the clubhouse provides overnight accommodations and offers additional venues for rehearsal dinners, brunches and other pre- and post-function mixers. Those with a boat may want to make use of the club’s guest dock—it might be just the spot to park your getaway launch and set sail for the future!

CEREMONY CAPACITY: The facility holds 200 seated guests outdoors.

EVENT/RECEPTION CAPACITY: Indoors, the club can accommodate 200 seated without a dance floor, 150 with a dance floor, or 200 standing.

MEETING CAPACITY: Commodore’s Hall seats 200, and the Regetta Room seats 20–40.

Fees & Deposits

The rental fee is required to reserve your date. 90% of the estimated event total is due 10 days prior to the event, and the balance is due on the day of the event. The rental fee ranges $150–1,500 depending on the space and time rented. Entrées range $12–55/person. Tax, alcohol and a 20% service charge are additional.
