Alameda Wedding Venue
1101 Pacific Marina
Alameda, California 94501
Jack London would not recognize the place! The famous author-adventurer was a member of the Oakland Yacht Club in 1913, when access was by dinghy only and members tied up at wood pilings driven into the mud. Today, many decades and moves later, the organization’s airy, well-appointed clubhouse occupies a quiet, park-like setting in a treelined Alameda neighborhood with a private 220-slip marina and views of the Oakland skyline and the Oakland/Alameda Estuary. There’s no stress here. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the friendly staff will bend over backwards to make certain every aspect of your affair is shipshape.
Your guests will have plenty of parking and easy access to the two-story facility. Event spaces include the Regatta Room downstairs, with a built-in wet bar, big windows, a sheltered patio and excellent views of the marina and estuary where kayaks and sailboats drift by at eye level. It’s perfect for small meetings and gatherings. Adjacent restrooms have showers, dressing areas and patio access.
For the main event, the Commodore’s Hall upstairs is a gorgeous room with a view. Its pale blue hue mirrors the water and sky and fills the space with a pleasant sense of peace and possibility. Brightly colored burgees—the flags from yacht clubs with reciprocating privileges—festoon the walls near the entrance, where an ample vestibule houses a cloakroom that can double as gift storage.
Like the waters it rests beside, the room has a natural flow and a nautical feel. The floor-to-ceiling windows on its north side open onto a series of individual balconies, set with tables and chairs, that look down on the boats berthed in the marina below and out toward the East Bay hills and the dramatic Oakland skyline. On the far end of the hall, a built-in oak dance floor can serve as an indoor ceremony space, a stage, or a place to move to the music. A circular oak bar occupies the opposite end of the room. Sizable celebrations of every kind can be easily accommodated in the area in between and serviced from the club kitchen where a well-trained staff expertly prepares fine party fare. Add a podium for speakers and a pull-down screen and you have a room fit for any occasion. There’s even a windowed alcove with city and sea vistas just right for framing the couple’s first bite of cake.
The peaceful city park, situated between a tranquil lagoon and the picturesque marina, is an outdoor option for exchanging your wedding vows. OYC staff adds guest seating, flowers, an arch, chairs for your harpist or string quartet—whatever you want to personalize your special ritual. Nature provides the rest: live oaks, willow, birdsong and, of course, the spectacular estuary view.
Next door to the clubhouse, an attractive hotel makes visiting attendees’ accommodation easy and offers additional venues for rehearsal dinners, brunches and other pre- and post-function mixers. Those with a boat may want to make use of the club’s guest dock—it might be just the spot to park that getaway launch and set sail for the future.
