Why We Like This Place

Gatherings is an all-inclusive event venue that offers the perfect wedding trifecta: a homey, vintage-style setting; superb, made-to-order cuisine; and beach wedding ceremonies. This clever combo is the brainchild of Events by Classic, a family-run culinary team that’s been pleasing local palates for years. The venue itself is a fetching Victorian in Pacific Grove, a historic Monterey suburb known for its simple charm. When we first drove up the treelined street to Gatherings, a mother goose and her fuzzy goslings were waddling along the roadside, an appropriately quaint welcome to this cozy home.

Built in 1907, the recently restored moss-colored house now has modern amenities, but still retains its original Art Deco flair. The home makes the most of its petite size, with votives and fresh flowers spread throughout the rooms. Events here are warm, relaxed affairs, and doors are left open so that there’s a natural flow from one area to the next. The foyer introduces Gatherings’ inviting aesthetic: cherry and gold brocade wallpaper, Art Deco fixtures, and soft impressionist masterpieces that convey the elegance of a bygone era.

The three adjoining event rooms are similarly arrayed. In the Parlor, period furnishings are clustered around a fireplace; a plasma TV above a rose marble mantle often plays a photographic montage of the wedding couple. A leaded-glass transom frames the passageway to the Dining Room, whose gleaming wood floors make a perfect dance floor. Ceiling speakers and adjustable lights let you set the desired mood, and a bay window showcases the wedding cake. Finally, the Music Room boasts a player piano that can also be played by hand. A viewing window peers into a state-of-the-art chef’s kitchen, and guests are welcome to wander in and check out the culinary action up close.

Mingling also extends to the home’s wooden deck, part of which is tented, twinkle-lit and dotted with cocktail tables; the rest is open to the refreshing sea air, and comes with a wood bar and an outdoor fireplace. As evening descends, firelight, candlelight and moonlight create a romantic glow.

And if your romantic vision includes a beach wedding ceremony, then Gatherings will stage yours on one of the local beaches. Lover’s Point, a lovely coastal enclave, is just a couple of blocks away, so afterwards it’s easy to return to Gatherings for the reception.

In keeping with the personable theme, Gatherings offers butlered receptions that allow friends and family to roam freely. Committed to five-star service, the impeccably turned-out staff is both friendly and well trained. All food is cooked or grilled during the event—which is not only tastier, but more fun, too. Gatherings has several event packages that offer terrific value. All of them allow you to bring your own alcohol, for example, and they’ll provide the bartender at no extra cost.

Events by Classic recently acquired The Perry House, a historic property that’s divine for garden weddings with a view of the Monterey Bay—and capacity for up to 150. Fees & Deposits

A $1,500 deposit is required to reserve your date and the balance is due 2 weeks prior to the event. Wedding packages range $3,785–8,190 depending on the day of the week, the number of guests and the menu selection.
