If you’re looking for a very special place, it’s in Foresthill, a small hamlet about 40 minutes northeast of Sacramento. Here you’ll find the historic Monte Verde Inn, which is, in a word, wonderful.
The property was originally a gathering spot for Native Americans, and after gold was discovered in 1849, it became a toll station and respite for travelers. A private residence was built on the site in 1936, and today this stately Georgian-style manor is a gracious reminder of the past. A glassed-in sun porch covers the front of the manor house, and makes a sparkling backdrop for photos of the bridal party.
The landscaped grounds have the feel of an English country estate: A long entry drive, lined with flowering plum trees, draws you back in time. Manicured lawns, 100-year-old quince trees and a veritable tapestry of flowers (changed seasonally according to the whim of the owners) invite you to celebrate amid a garden of earthly delights. For ceremonies try the patios—they’re surrounded by tall cedars that form an informal outdoor cathedral. At night, “fairy lights” and turn-of-the-century streetlights create a glittering halo around dancing couples.
Guests can also enjoy the inn’s inviting interior, whose large open rooms feature an array of architectural embellishments and antiques. Spacious, newly refurbished guest rooms occupy the second floor. They’re prettily decorated and have high ceilings, hardwood floors and Oriental carpets. The inn offers a wedding package that accommodates up to 16 overnight guests, and includes champagne and snacks, plus a full breakfast. For a nominal charge, you can invite other friends or family staying nearby to join you for this “morning after” get-together.
Your congenial proprietors, Douglas and Kelly Dalisa, have a very personal connection to the Monte Verde Inn. They fell in love with the beautiful inn and gardens and were actually married here. Someday, they thought, they would like to own and operate this place…. Years passed and at last their dream came true: In early 2006, they purchased the inn and have already made substantial upgrades. Thrilled by their new venture, Doug and Kelly go out of their way to ensure that your event will be all you imagined and more.
As innkeepers, your hosts are eminently qualified. Doug, a professional chef and graduate of the California Culinary Academy, personally prepares all the inn’s meals using only the freshest, highest-quality ingredients. With his extensive knowledge of wines, he is more than happy to suggest perfect pairings for your bright California menu. The warm and friendly Kelly has a bachelor’s degree in Hotel & Restaurant Management. She’s worked in the catering industry for years, and was even an award-winning instructor in Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management! Now she lavishes her expertise upon the inn’s lucky guests.
All these elements combined—the enchanting grounds, delicious cuisine, quaint accommodations, and enthusiastic service—create the Monte Verde Inn’s successful mix of country charm and elegance.

A $1,000 deposit is required to secure your date. Rates start at $84/person, which includes rental of the Inn for 5 hours, rehearsal, all setups for ceremony and reception, color-coordinated, fresh floral centerpieces for all tables, wedding cake, hors d’oeuvres, full buffet and nonalcoholic beverages. Note that all food is prepared from fresh ingredients on the premises. Alcoholic beverages, tax and a 21% service charge are additional.
