Why We Like This Place

Exciting and dramatic in scale, the Mission Bay Conference Center is almost as striking as the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay from which it draws much of its distinctive orange-red and ocean-blue color palette. Dominating the handsome UCSF campus in the recently developed Mission Bay neighborhood, this contemporary structure represents a brilliant 21st-century standard in event planning options. A seamless mixture of large and intimate public and private spaces, the venue provides everything you need to take your event—wedding, corporate or community function, performance or social gathering—to the next level.

The entrance is through the doors of the William J. Rutter Center and a softly lit hall gallery that opens almost immediately onto the expansive Fisher Atrium, where windowed walls, an open mezzanine, and skylights high overhead create a sense of soaring dimension. Have your cocktail reception here—there’s plenty of room for guests to circulate. And while they’re sipping champagne and sampling passed hors d’oeuvres, they’ll be admiring the clean lines and captivating use of light, shadow and geometry achieved by world-renowned architect Ricardo Legorreta.

For your sit-down reception or dinner-dance, the adjacent Fisher Banquet Room is a splendid setting. The room, which can be used in its entirety or divided into two smaller sections, is enhanced by mood lighting and a built-in sound system and projector. Glass doors in a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows lead out to a pair of terraces framed by greenery. The Bank of America Terrace has a campus vista and offers a lovely way to take part of your celebration outdoors. If you feel your guests need still more room to relax, the ground floor lounge with a terrace view is just the spot.

But that isn’t all. We said the center would take your event to another level and we meant it. Moving up to the glass-walled mezzanine that looks out over the Fisher Atrium on one side and the campus grounds on the other, you’ll find yourself in the airy Robertson Auditorium Foyer, another spacious entertainment area. Bright and open, with a roomy outdoor deck, it’s large enough for a cocktail reception, food stations, photo booths, or any creative combination of activities. The Robertson Auditorium itself has a grand, state-of-the-art stage and projection system, as well as a beautiful Architectural Digest-style surround warmed with rich walnut colors—perfect for framing any special affair.

Ready to rise to an even higher level? Head for the roof, where surprising features include a little “lawn” area and a rock-climbing wall. On the way, check out the boardroom and the additional conference rooms before stepping out onto the Pink and Brown Patios with their awesome Bay and City skyline views.

Fees & Deposits

50% of anticipated event total is required to reserve your date. The balance is due 30 days prior to the event. Rental fees range $1,800–5,000 depending on the space rented. Receptions and dinners starting at $35/person. Tax, alcohol and a 20% service charge are additional.
