Why We Like This Place
California boasts some of the most gorgeous coastline in the world, and when early settler Silas Coombs came here in 1863, he scoped out and purchased the absolute best that the state had to offer. He built his Victorian home on 225 wooded oceanside acres just a few miles south of what is now charming Mendocino village, and a century and a half later it’s become the historic Little River Inn, the toast of the coast and an ideal setting for your own piece of history.
The North Coast hasn’t changed much since Silas’s day. It’s still wildly beautiful: craggy and pristine with startling bluffs, miles of trails, sheltered coves, and little trafficked yet easily accessible beaches. But his property has blossomed. Today, it’s a much-praised establishment with a unique collection of guestrooms, cottages and indoor and outdoor meeting spaces, as well as a full-service salon and day spa, tennis courts, golf course, excellent restaurant/bar and cute little antique shop. The inn sprawls over the hillsides, offering a felicitous mix of privacy, community and spectacular Pacific views.
Your conference, retreat, reunion, wedding—in fact, any kind of celebration—will be expertly handled by dedicated innkeepers whose family has been hosting outstanding events for nearly a hundred years.
They can help you pick the event sites that are right for you—not an easy decision with so many options! Share vows or cocktails in a picturesque multilevel courtyard surrounded by a profusion of colorful flowers. Lilies, lavender, daffodils, nasturtiums, poppies, fuchsias and more peek out from between the ferns and pines, perfuming the air and brightening moods. Just up the steps, the wedding-cake-white Abalone Room with its large deck and ocean views suits any kind of standing or seated function. Scattered with shells, looped with veils, garlanded in flowers or hung with white paper lanterns, it’s an inviting blank canvas for your wedding masterpiece. Let the property’s meandering grounds inspire you. You might want to plan a rehearsal dinner at the restaurant, a picnic by the golf course, and if absolute privacy and rugged coastal views are your preference, the stand-alone Mallory House a short drive down the coast also provides stunning vistas and still more of the inn’s many special event options.
For a destination wedding like no other, extend the festivities. Your happily-ever-after can begin right here in the lovely people-friendly—and in some cases pet-friendly—accommodations. The comfortable rooms feature fireplaces, wet bars, Jacuzzis and individual hot tubs and all have spectacular ocean views. You won’t want to leave and neither will your guests.
So stay and enjoy the on-site activities or explore the splendor of the North Coast. Hiking, kayaking, sightseeing and wine tasting adventures may beckon during the day, but afterwards you’ll want to rush back to the inn to wind down in style. Start with a delicious dinner, then perhaps a stroll around the grounds, and finally, share a romantic toast with a glass of wine on your private deck in this blissful, ocean-kissed hideaway.
