Why We Like This Place
Less than half an hour from San Francisco and minutes from the airport, this first-class hotel is popular for high-profile conventions and corporate functions. But brides in search of convenience and lots of options will find the red carpet is rolled out for weddings, too.
First impressions really count, and the Hyatt Regency in Burlingame wows you at the entrance with its soaring, multi-tiered, tropical atrium. Rising skyward more than nine stories, it’s filled with plants, trees, a soothing water wall and cafés, making you feel like you’re in an outdoor plaza. A refreshing change from the typical hotel lobby, the atrium is not only a great place to “people watch,” but it’s also a winning spot for a sophisticated cocktail reception.
If you’re the kind of person who has as many friends in real life as you do on Facebook and you’d like to invite all of them to share your special day, then the Grand Peninsula Ballroom is for you. Start with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the open, airy Grand Foyer, which is separated from the atrium by a bank of banana trees and queen palms. At the appointed hour, four sets of double doors will be opened to reveal the expansive, plush ballroom. With fabric-covered walls, a coffered ceiling and eye-catching chandeliers dripping with crystal beads, this is a fitting backdrop for even the most formal affair. If you’d also like to get married here, you can easily section off part of the room’s 18,000 square feet for a lovely ceremony site, complete with its own entrance.
Tucked away in another section of the lobby level is the Regency Ballroom and its adjoining foyer. Sleekly modern in design, it features opaque glass sconces, honey-toned walls and a high ceiling with rows of recessed spotlights. You can use part or all of this space, which has a large rectangular center section and two smaller side sections.
For a celebration site that’s a bit less conventional, there’s the contemporary, tented Poolside Pavilion. Recently renovated and completely climate controlled, this “bride’s favorite” is fronted by a graceful, wisteria-covered arbor and looks out to the shimmering pool.
Need an interesting place for a rehearsal dinner or engagement party? Try Scalini, a private party venue with big-city style. Lots of dark wood, a wraparound bar, Art Deco pendant lights and cool, black & white subway tiles would convince you that you were in Chicago or New York except for one thing: a view of the bay through a wall of windows.
The Hyatt offers a range of packages, and their catering team is happy to custom-tailor a menu for your event, as well as accommodate cultural or ethnic needs. Plus, if you take advantage of their flexible Personal Preference Dining option, your friends and family will be able to select their favorite entrée from among four choices. In addition to having a great time at your wedding, your out-of-town guests will enjoy all the hotel’s amenities, including a glass-walled fitness room, pool, lively sports bar and free trolleys to area attractions.
