Why We Like This Place
Hotel guests stroll across the vast, high-ceilinged, art-filled lobby. Visitors from all over the world lounge in its velvet chairs. Through enormous windows hotel guests can watch the city bustle by, as the soothing sound of a cascading fountain provides a calming contrast to the whirl of activity outside.
High-rise hospitality and a reputation for service and style have long been the hallmarks of the popular Hotel Nikko, a sophisticated downtown hostelry that can quite literally look down on its neighbors. A favorite spot for grand gatherings, its 25 floors of public and private spaces offer opportunities for entertaining that most smaller establishments can’t match. In addition to the 510 tastefully appointed guest rooms and 22 suites, there are good-sized, subdividable meeting rooms, which are great for social and corporate functions.
But the Nikko Grand Ballroom on the third floor is a real show-stopper; at over 6,600 square feet, it’s immense. Its Asian contemporary décor, featuring burnished wall coverings, dark carpeting with a subtle overlay of cherry blossoms, and amber ceiling and wall fixtures, lends it a warmth that is generally lacking in rooms large enough to accommodate a Viennese waltz at full tilt. Subdividable, like so many of the hotel’s other meeting and banquet rooms, it breaks down into three smaller chambers, each of which is still suitable for a fairly large function and offers a sense of grandeur in a somewhat cozier setting.
For high-profile parties with a clubbier feel, ascend to Hotel Nikko’s 25th floor where an elegant aerie of glass showcases panoramic bay views in an atmosphere of style and restraint. From the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Golden Gate Room one can see Marin County and the Golden Gate Bridge. Bay View Room vistas include the hotel’s Financial District and Union Square neighbors, the wooded East Bay hills, and the silvery Bay Bridge. The Peninsula Room looks south, past AT&T Park, all the way to San Bruno Mountain. Night or day, this spectacular pageant of round-the-clock bayscapes is a hard-to-beat backdrop for glamorous wining and dining. Rooms can be combined to accommodate varying numbers of guests, and there are three boardrooms, as well, on this level. Each of these provides an equally stunning western perspective of the surrounding city, plus fax capability, high-speed internet access and other high-tech amenities.
ANZU Restaurant and Bar lends itself beautifully to an intimate wedding, rehearsal dinner, post-wedding brunch or bridal shower. It can be reserved exclusively for your affair, and the dramatic bar and upscale modern furnishings create a captivating setting so no other decoration is needed.
But the strongest suit of this excellent downtown hotel is service. Legendary Asian hospitality has always been a big part of its legacy, and decades of experience show in the way the expert staff custom caters and creates events with the kind of flair and focus that has earned lofty accolades. From sophisticated menu design and the careful arrangement of flowers to the care and feeding of its distinguished clientele, the attention to detail is exacting. It’s no wonder Hotel Nikko partygoers and guests often book return engagements.
