Why We Like This Place

The Hotel De Anza is not only a historic hotel, it’s one of San Jose’s most beautiful event facilities. Art Deco splendor—gold accents, etched glass and distinctive fixtures—is everywhere. Serve pre-party cocktails in the Hedley Club, the De Anza’s classic lounge. This extraordinary space has a highly detailed ceiling painted in golds, raspberries and blues. An enormous stone fireplace glows in winter, illuminating the room’s large paintings, eclectic furnishings and glass-backed bar.

French doors lead to the adjacent Palm Court Terrace, a sheltered courtyard enclosed by terracotta-colored walls covered with ivy. Three fountains set into the limestone floor add the sweet sounds of water flowing; palms, ferns and flowers around the perimeter lend the freshness and color of a garden. A canopied ceiling and heat lamps protect guests from the elements, making the Terrace attractive for events year-round.

For an indoor event, have a dazzling reception in the De Anza Room, a magnificent space with warm gold walls, hand-stenciled with gold-leaf leaves. The ceiling’s concrete beams are intricately painted in shades of gold, burgundy, blue and green, and a beautiful mural on a freestanding screen adds more color.

The hotel’s restaurant, La Pastaia (which means “pasta maker” in Italian), is a feast for the senses. Vibrant red walls showcase a collection of antique travel posters, while a stone floor and an abundance of slate tile throughout provide an earthy contrast. The exhibition kitchen area is tantalizing: a long marble counter is laden with delectable desserts and fresh-baked bread, and a wood-burning oven glows continuously at one end.

Small alcoves with a combination of banquettes and tables are cozy, intimate nooks. Create your own menu—no matter what you select, your guests will appreciate the genuine Italian cuisine, professionally served in a Tuscan-chic atmosphere.

And when the festivities are over, you can honeymoon in the hotel’s luxurious Penthouse, whose sumptuous bathroom beckons with a black marble floor, marble counters and a whirlpool bathtub large enough for four. We can’t say enough about the Hotel De Anza and La Pastaia; take your time when visiting so that you can fully savor this one-of-a kind place.
