Why We Like This Place

Tucked against the redwood-forested foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, the Hilton Santa Cruz/Scotts Valley presides over its serene and picturesque surroundings. Its striking architectural design, featuring a lavish cut-stone façade and rounded turrets, evokes a fairy-tale castle. Inside the magnificent wood-trimmed lobby, the gentle refrain of a three-story waterfall provides a soothing welcome to this sophisticated mountain retreat. A huge cathedral window and filigreed copper chandeliers cast soft illumination, and a dramatic staircase sweeps down from a second-story mezzanine.

The hotel is spread over the hillside, offering diverse locales and views for each part of your celebration. A hallway on the second floor leads to the Veranda, a favorite place to exchange vows that overlooks a wild meadow. Dappled shade plays across this spacious patio, which is covered by a redwood-slat canopy entwined with twinkle lights. Most brides also add other imaginative décor like garlands, ivy or paper lanterns.

Social hours are held on the light-filled mezzanine; in the hotel’s restaurant lounge; or out on the top-floor pool deck, set at the edge of a bluff that embraces a peaceful panorama of treetops and sky. Meanwhile, the bridal party escapes to the Wedding Garden, an idyllic spot for photographs. This sheltered terrace is landscaped with flowering shrubs and lush greenery, and gazes out to the tree-cloaked hills. At one end of the garden, a petite redwood pergola atop a raised stone stage is the perfect backdrop for romantic portraits. Some couples can’t resist the Wedding Garden’s charms, and hold an intimate ceremony here followed by cocktails on the Veranda.

When it’s time for the reception, open the French doors from the Veranda right into the Forest Ballroom where your guests are treated to creative California cuisine and the hotel’s award-winning service. As nighttime falls, step out onto the Veranda and breathe in the pure mountain air beneath a star-filled sky.

The Hilton Santa Cruz/Scotts Valley experience goes beyond the wedding: Their event experts can organize the entire weekend, and also coordinate your rehearsal dinner and day-after brunch. In fact, your special event easily becomes a minivacation for your guests (or a honeymoon for you!). The on-site restaurant has a great selection of local wines and craft brews. Comfortable, smartly decorated accommodations are outfitted with thoughtful amenities—like a microwave and refrigerator—to see everyone through the weekend. Newlyweds should opt for one of the luxury two-room suites, all of which come with a marble-clad whirlpool tub—a few also include a balcony or a fireplace. And if you want your pooch to be part of the wedding, feel free to bring him/her along—the hotel is pet-friendly, too!

The Hilton’s location is another plus. San Jose airport and bustling Silicon Valley are just 30 minutes away, while it’s only a scenic five-mile drive to the Santa Cruz beaches and boardwalk. With the Hilton as base camp, your group is perfectly situated to explore the region’s 40 boutique wineries. In fact, you’re sure to score genius points with your friends and family for selecting such a versatile and hospitable destination wedding venue.
