Why We Like This Place

After a multi-million dollar renovation, this handsome Hilton property is looking smart and contemporary, yet dashingly Old World, outfitted in touches of Florentine splendor and the rich browns, golds and greens of the Italian Renaissance. Set off the beaten path in the tranquil community of Pleasanton, it has the style of a fine metropolitan hotel, but without all the hustle and bustle.

It’s a playful spirit that carries one away here, though the presentation is sophisticated and upscale. The elegant lobby, with its striking marble checkerboard floor, richly patterned carpets and slate tile columns with frosted glass inserts, will make you think of Siena. Banquet and meeting rooms are named after sporting events, and guests love Club Sport, a 250,000-square-foot athletic playground that is accessible on the second floor of the hotel and complimentary to all registered hotel guests.

The hotel’s Olympic Ballroom is grand and impressive. If you use the entire space, it will hold up to 500 guests seated or 300 for dinner and dancing, but it’s also divisible into three, more intimate rooms. Accessed through a generous foyer off the windowed front hall, it’s dramatically appointed with elaborately patterned carpet and warm golden walls. The 12-foot ceiling houses recessed lighting, spots and splendid marbleized glass chandeliers, all of which can be used to spotlight or soothe, depending on the desired mood. Although the Ballroom is perfectly suited to toney private affairs, it’s also equipped with state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment, making it an excellent choice for business conferences. The well-lit foyer, which serves as a prefunction area, is great for aperitifs, appetizers, a guest book, favor tables and other event-related activities.

The less capacious Wimbledon, Masters and Triple Crown Rooms are also attractively and practically outfitted and ideal for smaller functions: a company meeting, a retirement party, a rehearsal dinner or an intimate dinner-dance.

Outdoors, an inviting deck and gazebo, surrounded by a white fence and bright lipstick-colored roses, suggest so many other party options. Garden chairs, heat lamps, sun umbrellas and terracotta pots overflowing with vibrant blooms can be arranged for a ceremony or a reception and dancing any time of the day. On one side, steps lead down to a patio and on the other, to a stone walkway, garden and the aquamarine sparkle of the hotel swimming pool and waterfall.

25% of the anticipated event total is required as a nonrefundable deposit when the site is booked. The estimated balance is due 4 business days prior to the event. Rental fees may apply; call for details. Packages range $42–54/person. Tax, alcohol and a 22% service charge are additional. Ovenight guestrooms can be arranged at a special rate; call for details.
