Why We Like This Place
As you walk through the “tunnel” of rose-covered arches at the entrance of Healdsburg Country Gardens, you’re completely enveloped by its fragrant beauty. And when you emerge from this magical walkway, the scenery only gets better.
What greets you is a lush rose garden, dotted with flowers, ancient oaks and towering redwoods. Walkways wind through lawns bordered by beds of vibrant lavender, lilacs, roses and wisteria, past a bubbling fountain and two aviaries filled with colorful birds. Framing this gorgeous tableau are sweeping views of estate vineyards, which are visible from almost everywhere in the garden.
Four spacious event areas flow together seamlessly, so guests can easily mix and mingle. The site’s focal point is the historic four-story redwood barn. Built in 1902, it has huge doors on two sides that open to vistas of the gardens and vineyards. Walls are decorated with bouquets of dried flowers, and a grapevine-covered terrace wraps around the building. At night, tiny white lights in the arbor and soft lighting inside the barn and throughout the gardens add a romantic glow while your friends and family dine, dance or just stroll through the grounds. The barn’s perfect acoustics will also enhance the music your band or DJ is playing.
Some of the best photo opportunities are in front of the 1920s cottage, which faces the barn from the other side of the garden. This adorable little house is the epitome of charming: Constructed in the wood-slat fashion of the time and enclosed by a picket fence, it beckons you to sit on the covered front porch and watch the grapes grow. Flowering vines creep up the support posts, while a colorful array of blossoms peek through the railings. The side deck and arbor offer yet more views of vineyards and garden. Brides use the interior of the cottage as a dressing room.
Couples get married under a majestic oak, while guests seated on a large shady lawn admire the vineyards in the background. Following the ceremony, champagne and hors d’oeuvres are served near the oak tree or on the barn’s wraparound terrace. The party then moves to a large adjoining lawn, where guests dine at tables beneath market umbrellas. Afterwards, everyone has an opportunity to dance in the barn, stroll through the gardens, and simply enjoy the irresistible setting of this Wine Country estate.
Owners Barbara and Walt Gruber specialize in just one kind of event: beautiful Wine Country weddings. So come and walk through the tunnel of roses; what you’ll find on the other side is a private haven that can be exclusively yours for a day and it’s only one and a half miles from Healdsburg Plaza!
