Why We Like This Place
You can find this winery atop a gentle slope in the Sonoma Carneros area by driving up the long private entry road through picturesque rolling hills dotted with vineyards. At the crest, you’ll spy Gloria Ferrer Caves & Vineyards, a Spanish-style hacienda offering Old World hospitality. When you host your ceremony and reception here, you have exclusive use of all indoor and outdoor spaces, and the flexibility to choreograph your event any way you like.
A sublime spot for saying “I do” is beneath a long arbor in front of the stairs at the winery entrance. Imposing Mediterranean-inspired columns support a wooden trellis entwined with Pinot Noir grapevines. The couple weds at one end of the arbor with the cultivated hills and fields in the background, while guests lounge comfortably beneath the arbor’s dappled shade. Alternatively, dress up the arbor with banquet tables laden with hearty local fare and Gloria Ferrer bubbly, and enjoy a delightful al fresco luncheon.
Dinner is usually served in the Main Cave. Available year-round except during the fall crush, it’s one of the Wine Country’s most unique venues. This subterranean world, lined with rows of bottles and barrels of wine, lends an authentic Wine Country atmosphere to your celebration. Flickering candelabras on tables and dramatic uplighting along the stone walls create an irresistibly romantic ambiance.
The party continues with dancing in the Visitor Center, called the Sala de Catadores. This warm and inviting space is highlighted by an attractive mahogany bar and fireplace of matching wood and tile. Adjoining the Sala is the aptly named Vista Terrace, a serene patio that takes full advantage of the panoramic view of Sonoma Valley and the Gloria Ferrer vineyards below. Refreshed by balmy breezes, it’s a lovely place to take a break from the festivities for some conversation and a glass of wine.
If you’re planning a smaller meeting, luncheon or shower, two more options are available in the off-season. The Executive Dining Room features rich mahogany accents and windows that look out onto a colorfully landscaped promenade. The slightly larger Conference Room is filled with natural light flowing in through multiple French doors. They open onto a deck, which overlooks the hillside and can be used as additional dining space or as a breakout area for a meeting.
Elopement alert: Those of you who only want to tie the knot at Gloria Ferrer can reserve just the Arbor for a ceremony. This special package comes with setup and rehearsal time, a bridal changing room with bathroom, champagne flutes for up to 100, and more.
The Gloria Ferrer portfolio has been praised by many, including Wine Spectator magazine who called their sparkling wines “some of California’s best.” Having an opportunity to sample this renowned bubbly is just one more benefit of getting married here. With winemaking traditions that stretch back to 18th-century Spain, the Ferrer family expanded their offerings in 1991 to include premium quality estate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay varietal wines. The knowledgeable staff will guide you in selecting just the right pairings for your private function.
This winery is an off-the-beaten-path, very secluded getaway that provides a beautiful backdrop for any event.
