Why We Like This Place

Located in the heart of historic downtown San Jose, this 1924 landmark is no ordinary venue. As you walk up the broad granite steps, past the enormous urns and soaring columns, you can’t help but be impressed by the stately elegance of its neoclassic design.

That impression carries through to the interior spaces as well. The Corinthian Room is the event center’s main ballroom, and it has all the elements of a true ballroom. You enter through a foyer, regally outfitted with a crystal chandelier and a hand-painted wood-beam ceiling. Once inside the Corinthian Room, you’re struck by its grand proportions and majestic features. The 60-foot ceiling has massive wood beams, and is inset with alternating panes of blue glass and intricately detailed panels of gold leaf grillwork. Six extraordinary wrought-iron-and-glass lanterns hang from the ceiling like giant luminous earrings, while five 30-foot palm trees embedded with twinkle lights add sparkle. At one end of the room is a stage with a carved stone proscenium arch framing red velvet curtains; at the other end is a carved granite balcony, where just-married couples often dance their first dance. Banquettes along the sides of the room make cozy seating areas, and there’s a raised section that’s ideal for the head table. The hardwood dance floor is permanently ensconced in front of the stage.

Smaller functions take place in the Gold, Silver and Bronze Rooms. All have crystal chandeliers, cream walls, red carpeting and ceilings baffled for sound. You can reserve these rooms individually, or combine them to make one long room—the perfect space for a wedding ceremony. And all three rooms have access to the Columns Lounge, a more casual space with faux-candle chandeliers and a mix of antiques and contemporary furnishings. The Olympia Room, a large private room with white walls and pastel detailing, is available for small meetings and as a bride’s dressing area.

Whether you’re getting married or planning a company meeting or party, the center’s staff will help you orchestrate it. And if you’re inviting out-of-town guests, they’ll appreciate being close to many of San Jose’s best hotels and cultural activities.
