Why We Like This Place
Nestled in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, CordeValle, a Rosewood Resort, may very well be Northern California’s answer to Shangri-la. Rising gently above a rural valley midway between Monterey and San Jose, this destination location, which strikes the perfect balance between understated elegance and natural beauty, instantly casts its spell over you.
Driving past a series of ponds, waterfalls and picturesque vines from the winery on property, you’re waved through the guard gate and arrive at the sprawling lodge-style clubhouse. Framed by mountains in the distance, the vaulted, cross-beamed entryway with its outdoor seating and fireplace beckons you and your guests with a warm welcome.
The lobby, a subtle mix of honeyed woods, stone pillars and earth tones, conveys luxury without a hint of pretension. Just to the left is the Library. Decorated with vibrant modern art and a rich kilim rug, it makes a cozy setting for an intimate wedding or reception. Larger ceremonies are held in the glorious outdoors on a nicely manicured practice facility, which affords wide-angle views of the 1,700-acre property. Continue your celebration with cocktails in the Rose Garden, a lovely spot abloom with fragrant and colorful flowers planted around a center patio. Several modern sculptures—a couple holding hands and a mother swinging her child—seem to convey sheer joy. There’s even a nearby stand of old oaks where a family of owls has nested.
When dinner is served, there’s no need to leave the vistas behind, because each of the four banquet event rooms looks out onto the verdant Robert Trent Jones Jr.-designed golf course. Most notable is the 2,300-square-foot Main Ballroom, whose high, coffered ceiling and stained-glass chandeliers enhance the rich décor. Here, wood-framed, wraparound windows reveal the panoramic landscape outside.
Inevitably you’ll find that just as the visitors to the fictional Shangri-la didn’t want to leave their heavenly valley, you and your nearest and dearest will want to linger at CordeValle. Their beautifully appointed bungalows and villas let you kick back in first-class homes away from home that feature top-of-the-line linens, organic toiletries, large living rooms and private, landscaped patios—some with outdoor spas and wisteria trees. If you’d like some extra relaxation, their lush Sense™ Spa, will pamper you into a state of bliss. Fees & Deposits
A deposit equal to the rental fee is required to reserve your date and the balance is due 14 days prior to the event. Rental fees range $700–7,500 depending on the day of the week, the season and the space rented. Meals range $60–110/person. Tax, alcohol and a 22% service charge are additional.
