Why We Like This Place

Gracing the shore of Lake Merritt, the Camron-Stanford House is the last of the grand Victorian homes that once ringed the lake. Constructed in 1876, it derives its name from the Camrons, who were the first residents, and the Stanfords, who occupied it for the longest period. When the building was scheduled for demolition in the late 1960s, concerned citizens formed the Camron-Stanford House Preservation Association and spent the intervening years raising funds to return the home to its former splendor.

Elaborate molding and authentic wallpaper patterns and fabrics have all been used to match the originals as closely as possible. Rooms filled with period artifacts, antiques and photos take you back to the late 1800s. The only operational gas chandelier in Northern California is located here. Outside, a large rear veranda overlooks Lake Merritt. Receptions can take place in the house, on the veranda or on the expansive lawn that extends to the lake. An iron fence enclosing the site ensures privacy, while allowing guests to appreciate the colorful tapestry of boats, birds and joggers that surrounds them.

CEREMONY CAPACITY: The Veranda alone holds up to 90 seated guests; the veranda and lawn combined (facing the lake) hold 250 seated.

EVENT/RECEPTION & MEETING CAPACITY: The facility accommodates 50 guests inside or 200 outside.

Fees & Deposits

Half the rental fee and a refundable $500 cleaning deposit are required when the facility is booked. Base rental fees range $300–1,200 for up to 200 guests and include staffing. Fees vary depending on space(s) selected and length of time rented. Additional hours are available at the rate of $175/hour.
