Why We Like This Place
On a Napa hillside, near the Silverado Trail, you’ll find the lovely and highly acclaimed Auberge du Soleil. The Mediterranean-style building welcomes guests through a simple, yet refined, garden courtyard, shaded by a canopy of gray olive trees. The beautifully appointed, understated lobby is refreshing in warm earth tones, and gives you a sense of what’s to come.
The inn’s private dining rooms are at the base of a curved staircase that descends from the lobby. The Cedar Room is the smaller of the two. It’s circular, and right in its center, seemingly supporting the ceiling, is a cedar tree trunk which acts as the room’s focal point. Light sand-colored walls frame the many French doors and windows that overlook the valley below; original artwork and cozy furnishings lend a fresh contemporary flavor to the room. The wood ceiling and a large stone fireplace make this a very comfortable spot, one where guests can chat or just curl up in front of the fire. The Cedar Room is terrific for smaller gatherings and dinners, and also serves as a cocktail area or bridal suite.
The adjacent Vista Rooms offer valley view dining for larger groups. Everything here is designed to be soothing to the eye: An olive-hued carpet inscribed with an olive branch pattern, stone wall sconces, natural cedar ceiling and soft sand-colored walls combine to make an inviting environment. No matter where you sit, you’ll be able to take in glorious panoramic views of the Napa Valley. One mirrored wall is strategically placed to reflect acres of vineyards into the room, and multiple French doors invite diners to amble outside onto the adjacent decks.
The Terrace and ceremony deck have unparalleled vistas, and on warm days or evenings can be set up for outdoor receptions with tables and umbrellas. A stone-sculpted fountain is set off to one side of the Terrace, and terracotta pots filled with brilliantly colored annuals are placed around its periphery. The Terrace offers guests a sheltered spot where they can enjoy hors d’oeuvres and watch a sunset or wedding ceremony. The ceremony deck, which extends out from the Terrace, offers the bride and groom a special spot to take their vows while their lucky guests get to see them, framed by the panorama beyond.
The ambiance here is both warm and très chic. For an upscale California-style wedding, the Auberge has few peers.
